UCF Football History Football at University of Central Florida enters fourth decade of competitition
Oct. 29, 2001 UCF President Trevor Colbourn announces that he is "going to explore the possibility of developing a football program at UCF" during his inaugural address Jan. 15. President Colbourn and Athletics Director Jack O'Leary approve a decision to form a football team to begin play in the fall as part of NCAA Division III. Don Jonas, former professional football player and Orlando dignitary, becomes UCF's first football coach on a volunteer basis. More than $40,000 is raised during a one-day blitz of area businesses by the Orlando Chamber of Commerce Sports Committee, June 13. This amount, along with money raised by a luncheon hosted by Sen. George Stuart, gives UCF enough funds to start its first football season. The first schedule is officially announced June 14, featuring eight games, including the Sept. 22 opener at St. Leo. Season tickets go on sale July 12. The price for the four-game package is $13, with single game tickets available for $4 each.

  • During the 1915 season, the Mustangs posted a record of 2-5 and scored just three touchdowns while giving up 131 points. SMU recorded the first shutout in school history with a 7-0 victory over Dallas University that year.
  • SMU finished the 1916 season 0-8-2 and suffered its worst loss ever, a 146-3 drubbing of Rice. The Mustangs were outscored, 455-27, by their opponents while managing ties against Austin College (0-0) and Southwestern (9-9). Ray Morrison left SMU following the 1916 season to work with the Army YMCA at Fort Oglethorpe, Ga., as Director of Sports and Recreation. He returned to SMU in 1920 to organize a Department of Physical Education.
  • J. Burton Rix became the second head football coach in 1917 and guided SMU to its first winning season (3-2-3).
Record for the decade: 14-21-6
  • In 1922, end Gene Bedford and back Logan Stollenwerck were named first-team All-Southwest Conference, becoming the first Mustang players to achieve that honor. Bedford became the first player from SMU to play professionally when he played for the Rochester Jeffersons in 1925.
  • The Mustangs made their first bowl appearance in 1924, playing against West Virginia Wesleyan in the Dixie Classic on New Year's Day. The game, played at Fair Park Stadium in Dallas, was the predecessor to the Cotton Bowl. West Virginia Wesleyan spoiled SMU's 18-game unbeaten streak with a 9-7 victory.

Valley Football History
High School Football in the Valley
High school football may be the underrated pastime in America. While baseball fans enjoy a long season in favorable weather, football fans brave the elements every Friday night each Fall, converging in hordes around community gridirons across the nation. The Lower Snoqualmie Valley community is no exception. The original Duvall High School moved to Carnation in the 1940's making the only high school in the valley Tolt High School. Before 1944, high school football was played in 6-man squads, taking advantage of the short supply of athletes that tiny rural schools could muster. By the end of World War II, both Tolt and Mount Si High Schools followed the trend to form 11-man squads and enter competition.
Under the coaching leadership of Homer Berges, Tolt launched a 57-year tradition of intense competition on the football field. From the original Tolt Demons in the Lakeside League, to our current Cedarcrest Red Wolves in the KingCo league, thousands have turned out to support their home team.
Our passion for high school football has driven us to learn of its origin and proud tradition. With great pride we present these pages of historic scores and stories. Our hope has been, and continues to be, to unite our growing communities around this one dependable pastime.

  • While 2001 was the inaugural year of the Vermont Ice Storm, the team nevertheless already possesses a history. This history weaves together the football fortunes of the Plattsburgh semi-pro team across the lake, and a few dozen stalwart Vermonters who have been supremely motivated to play and coach football.
Going back 12 football seasons, to the first year of operations of the Plattsburgh Northstars, dozens of men from Vermont have made the three-times-per-week trip up to the Grand Isle Ferry to make it to practices and games in Plattsburgh. Paying their own way over the ferry, and taking four hours (or more in some cases) just to go to practice and back, these players and coaches first became part of the history of that team.
In the Northstars' initial season, Doug Perez (our Head Coach) was the oldest player on that team (44). By three seasons later, current Ice Storm team members Dave Baldwin, Matt Timney, Brian Kemp, Troy Canada, Coach Jerome McCray, and Shane Cheeseman were on the Northstars' roster. By the late 90s, another half dozen current Storm players were added to the list of Vermonters who travelled to New York to play. Today's Ice Storm roster also includes former Northstar players Steve Ruger, Russell Humphrey, Chris Crouse, Jim Buzzi and Tom O'Bryan.
These men, and several dozen others who have retired from active play, formed the nucleus of the group that started up the Ice Storm. After an aborted attempt to organize three years ago, the Storm picked up speed in the Fall 0f 2000 when the New England Football League advertised in Vermont papers that it "wanted someone to organize" a semi-pro team in Vermont... the only state in the country without one... to play in its league. First answering the call were Dave Baldwin and Matt Timney. Soon Russell Humphrey joined up, and this group persuaded their former coach Doug Perez to take the helm. Perez in turn convinced Mike LaBarre (from Northstar coaching days) to join the ever-expanding group.

OLYMPIAKOS F.C was founded in 1925, when the members of “Piraeus Football Club” and of “Piraeus Fans Club” decided, during a historical assembly, the dissolution of the two clubs and the foundation of a new one.
Notis Kamberos announced the name “OLYMPIAKOS” and Michalis Manouskos completed it to “OLYMPIAKOS FAN CLUB OF PIRAEUS”.
The players of the newly founded OLYMPIAKOS were excellent. The Andrianopoulos brothers, however, were those who raised the reputation and added glory to the club. Children of a prosperous family, they made the name of OLYMPIAKOS known all over Greece.
Yiannis, Dinos, Giorgos and Vassilis were the first to play. Later on, Leonidas made his appearance, while Stelios also played for a short time. The five brothers in the offence became a legend. The Gospel Of Football According To Saint Bubba
On Sunday, the 1st day, the world of football was without form and void. Without structure did the young men of America play games related to Soccer, and Rugby. In great need of entertainment were the "Football Gods". So that they would be entertained did they created Walter Camp. In their own image created they him, and sent him to matriculate at Yale. At "Old Eli" did Camp matriculate. With great multitudes of gladness, and propensity did Camp compete in the games of "primitive football". On Monday, the 2nd day, did Camp and his "teams" encounter Harvard, Princeton, and Penn. For many seasons afterward did the great congregation known as the "Big Three" compete in great battles. Powerful believers in the faith were they. Verily with the "Flying Wedge" and "Stall Game" did they compete. The "Football Gods" were saddened and brought the wrath of Camp upon them. Camp, the first creation of the "Football Gods", prophesied the great game to come. Unto the non-believers did he give the rules. A finite number yards per downs, a finite number of members per team, and names for the positions that the members of the teams where to play did Camp give them all.

History last updated Over a century of Tradition The tradition we know as Kutztown University football today began over 100 years ago, when KU was known as Keystone Normal School. Keystone won all five games it played during the initial 1895 season, including a 10-4 win over Reading High School. The school fielded a team until 1905, when the sport was suspended due to a serious on-field injury. Football became a permanent part of the campus again in 1923. Those initial seasons set the foundation for football and athletics in general at KU. The early teams were nicknamed the "Golden Avalanche," and featured many competitive players and teams before the current nickname of "Golden Bears" was adopted in the 1960s. Since then, KU has had its share of prominent players who have received national attention and fame as well as success in their fields. The individuals listed on this page are prime examples. Golden Bears in the NFL KU has been represented in the NFL every year since 1974. The following are KU players who have played regular season games. Doug Dennison, RB
