Hanukkah A parent came in to teach us about Hanukkah, a holiday celebrated all over the world by Jewish people. First she read us a story about Hanukkah and how it began. Then she read a funny Hanukkah story, The Trees of the Dancing Goats by Patricia Polacco. She showed us several different menorahs. Each one held eight candles to represent the eight days of Hanukkah and one more candle, the sham ash, used to light the others. She gave each of us a bag of Hanukkah gelt (chocolate money) and a dreidel. She taught us how to play dreidel. The dreidel had four Hebrew letters representing the words "a great miracle happened here". Each Hebrew letter on the dreidel had a rule. Nun means win none. Shin means put in one. Hay means win half. Gimmel means win all. Some of us played alone so we wouldn't lose our chocolate! Others played in groups and agreed to divide the chocolate fairly at the end. We listened to Hanukkah music as we played. It was fun!

The Hanukkah Event of the Temple Mount Faithful on the Temple Mount, Jerusalem and the Tombs of the Maccabees
27th December 2000 On the 27th December 2000, at a very critical time in the history of Israel, The Temple Mount and Land of Israel Faithful Movement marched from the tombs of the Maccabees in Modi'in to Biblical Jerusalem and the Temple Mount. Together with them were many Israelis and visitors from outside Israel. The date of the march was not an accident. The march was held on the same day that President Clinton asked Prime Minister Barak to give him an answer regarding his proposals to give the Temple Mount, most of Biblical Jerusalem and 95% of Judea, Samaria and Gaza to the "Palestinian Authority". I am sure that G-d chose this day for the march to be held to give Clinton and the terrorist, Arafat, the following godly message concerning their evil and anti-godly plans for Israel: This godly message was sent by the Temple Mount Faithful from the tombs of the Maccabees and Jerusalem to Clinton and the terrorist, Arafat, as well as the godly message which Nehemiah gave when the Arabs in his time tried to take Jerusalem from the Israelites and he answered them in the name of the G-d of Israel: "Then I answered them, and said to them: The God of heaven will make us prosper, and we his servants will arise and build; but you have no portion, no right, no memorial, in Jerusalem."

Hanukkah is the Jewish holiday that is celebrated around the same time as the Christian holiday of Christmas. A Shamash, or helper candle, is used to light each candle on the Menorah to celebrate the freedom to worship their one God instead of the Greek gods they were made to more than 2000 years ago. This book illustrates the customs of Hanukkah in a way that's easy for children to understand. The illustrations help the reader see what goes on when a family celebrates this beloved holiday. There are definitions in the back of the book to inform the reader what each of the customary objects are and the story of how Hanukkah came about. There's even a part on the definitions page to help the reader pronounce Hanukkah correctly! This is a great book for any parent who wants to teach their children what Hanukkah is and how it is celebrated. The illustrations are full-page captions of the family participating in the celebration of Hanukkah. I definitely recommend this book for younger kids as a great bedtime story.

TUESDAY, DECEMBER 23, 1997 Jewish Center Puts Disabled on a Journey Toward Inclusion Program aims to help young people learn about God and take part in family religious activities, such as Hanukkah, which starts tonight. Los Angeles Times - Tuesday, December 23, 1997 By KAREN ROBINSON-JACOBS TIMES STAFF WRITER With the flick of a switch, 20-year-old Refaya Lowinger pulls her motorized wheelchair to a stop. The slight young woman, one of several 'teachers' aides with the Etta Israel Center on L.A.'s Westside, is taking a break from her Sunday school lessons to talk about the spiritual needs of young people with disabilities. Taking the chair next to her is 15-year-old Rivka, "almost the oldest" of nine children being raised in an Orthodox Jewish home. Together, the two are teacher and student and the topic of the moment is Hanukkah, the Jewish Festival of Lights, which begins at sundown tonight. Words do not always come easily for Rivka, who is mildly retarded. She looks to Refaya for help in articulating the lessons she has already learned. She knows that in class they light the menorah, play with the dreidel and eat latkes.

Dear Visitors
I have two four year olds that I watch in my daycare home. Lately, they have been pretending to smoke cigarettes. At first I told them that I did not want them to pretend that because it was bad for their health. This did not stop the behavior so I explained that smoking is no longer allowed inside buildings so they would have to wait until we were outside to pretend. I am feeling guilty allowing them the opportunity to smokeam I doing the right thing?

Hanukkah latkes on my plate.
Hanukkah latkes, aren’t they great.
Gosh oh gee, but I have fun,
Piling the applesauce on each one.
Hanukkah dreidels spin, spin, spin.
I get a gimmel, and I win.
I think Hanukkah is great, With Hanukkah latkes on my plate. We tell the tale of the Maccabees, How they fought to pray as Jews, They used their brains, and they prayed to G-d, And they ate their latkes, too.

The Illuminist Conspiracy
Sabbath Day Sermon: Saturday 7 December 2002
by Christopher C. Warren
Brethren and sisters, I welcome you to this our last Sabbath in the current Hanukkah season. Each day for the last eight days we have been kindling lights to commemorate the saving acts, miracles, and wonders which Yahweh performed not only in the Temple at Jerusalem when He caused a single day's supply of oil to burn for eight days, but all His saving acts throughout history. And though we specifically remember the Exodus from Egypt during Passover, we remember it here today as one of those extraordinary events full of high drama which has characterised many rescues of Israel throughout history. The delivery from Egypt was extraordinary - the miracles spectacular: the ten plagues, the dividing of the Red Sea, manna in the wilderness, water from rocks, the dividing of the Jordan River, the casualty-free conquest of Jericho, and many others besides. And one of the extraordinary phenomena of the Exodus was the way Yahweh guided His people through the wilderness and away from captivity by means of a cloud of smoke by day and a flaming fire by night. Such guidance has not taken place since, but it is about to take place again in our day. How do I know, because the Bible tells me so, and specifically in Isaiah:
"Then Yahweh will create over all of Mount Zion and over those who assemble there a cloud of smoke by day and a glow of flaming fire by night; over all the glory will be a canopy"

A World to Celebrate
Add a multicultural twist to your holiday with activities and books that will teach your child about other traditions.
By Maureen Hegarty Today, you might be trimming the Christmas tree, and your neighbor next door might be sharing a Hanukkah meal while friends across town fast in preparation for 'Eid-ul-Fitr. Families across the country are preparing for different holidays, but most of us will end the year in a similar way gathering with relatives, enjoying great food, and giving gifts. Despite some common traditions, your child may be confused by other people's celebrations. She doesn't understand why her best friend gets presents for eight days or why your family doesn't decorate a tree "like they do on TV."

While parents often give children presents, one on each night, this Jewish holiday is about more than gift exchange. With some thoughtful planning, it can become a yearly touchstone for family unity. Here are some ideas for using the "festival of lights" to create family warmth on each night of Hanukkah.
