Re: Heavens Gate? So.. here I am.. On my new shift at work. 2:30p-11p. *grumble* I dunno how I feel about this. My supervisor told me he wanted me on his shift because he'd rather have -me- on his shift (which is 5p-1:30a) than the other person who's changing shifts. I dont know how much of that was just bullshit because he either A. Likes the other guy more and the other guy asked for the shift I want or B. Just wants to be able to keep an eye on me because he doesnt trust me to do my job. I really dont know. Oh well.. I getta sit around and pick my nose until 11 o'clock now.. Yippity-Skippity. Tim just ran up on me to go smoke with him.. *grumble* And I -cant- because Im a shift-changing whore! *threatens the powers that be with a rusty axe in a Jugalette fashion* But thats fine.. Fine fine. I'll live. *sniffle* My parents are talking about my little sister, Jen not going to the prom. Grrr. I am -so- not okay with this. Okay.. For one reason or another both my sister and I were pulled out of school in the middle of our sophmore year.. and we both ended up getting our GED's. Theres nothing wrong with that.. I have a decent job.. it's not like either one of us had a 4.0 gpa or were planning on getting accepted to a University or anything.. But I missed prom. And I always hated that. Every year, Im sorta bummed around April/May when I run into all the lil' Promsters doing their prom thang. And Jen, thanks to her b/f who's a senior at a local HS, is going to get to go to prom. She's bought the dress (and it is -gorgeous-.. my GOD, when did she grow up quite like that?!?) and she's been planning this for over a month. And now, because of a small spat between them.

Their belongings, divided into 185 lots, included such mundane household items as a microwave oven, folding tables, trash containers, portable TVs, alarm clocks, chairs and tables, as well as clothes, tools and books.

Cults
by Rich McGee
Rich McGee directed the recent conference on origins entitled Mere Creation which was held in Los Angeles and was attended by 192 scientists and scholars. Rich, a 20- year staff member of Campus Crusade for Christ, is also director of International Expansion for Christian Leadership Ministries, where he has been since 1982. Rich earned a Th.M. in Old Testament from Dallas Theological Seminary in 1981.
Introduction
What is a cult, and how is it different from a religious group? I will seek to answer this and discuss what the cults believe and what it is that motivates people to enter these groups. What is it that makes people stay in cult groups and sometimes be willing even to die for their group? We think immediately about the Heaven's Gate cult and the 39 otherwise bright people who recently killed themselves so they could supposedly be transported to a UFO trailing the Hale-Bopp Comet. Or we think of David Koresh and the Branch Davidian cult near Waco, Texas in 1993, who barricaded themselves at their Mount Carmel headquarters and died in the flames. An even more dramatic memory is Jim Jones and his 911 followers, members of the People's Temple, who in 1978 committed mass suicide by drinking poison in Jonestown, Guyana.

the ASCII text version of this sermon Text: 1 John 4:1-3 Introduction: There has been much interest lately about cults and the like. I preached a message this last Sunday night that I thought might be of interest to some of you. The Scriptures tell us that in the last days there will be many false Christs, many that try to turn people from the truth to follow "cunningly devised fables." The Christian should not be surprised nor alarmed at the rise of cultist type religious groups. Nor should we feel as if we must shrink from God given, Bible truth because of these cultist activities. We need to make a distinction at this point, from non Christian religions and Christian type or Bible-based cults. While many of the same things are true of each, our main difficulty is with those that use the same Bible we use, or at least a version of it. With the mass suicides of 39 people involved in the Heaven's - Gate cult, there has risen a new thrust of conversation in journalism concerning the seriousness of cults and what they do to its people. I am as opposed to the cults as just about anybody I know. Ibelieve they are devilish, destructive and disobedient to God. But, at the same time, I am concerned that the media is training the masses to believe that almost ANY church organization is cultish and dangerous. *** We have seen, in the last few days, video clips of cult leader David Koresh, teaching the Bible in much the same fashion (even if he was teaching a false doctrine) as we would in a Baptist church.

Not far from the Heaven's Gate suicide scene stands the terra cotta-roofed mansion named Beth-Sarim (Hebrew for "House of Princes") built in 1929 by the Watchtower organization, better known as Jehovah's Witnesses. "Transplanting organs is really cannibalism," current Watchtower President Milton G. Henschel told FREE PRESS religion writer Hiley B. The sect banned organ transplants and even skin grafting for thirteen years, but then dropped the ban suddenly in 1980, without any apology to members who had gone blind refusing cornea transplants or relatives of those who had died refusing kidneys. However, before selling their San Diego mansion in 1948, Henschel's associates drew up their ban on blood transfusions, a ban that has "led thousands to die needlessly" according to charges cited recently in

March 26, 1997 - W.W. Higher Source - Up to 39 bodies were found by sheriff's deputies inside a multimillion-dollar mansion in Rancho Santa Fe, an exclusive community in northern San Diego County. Victims of an apparent mass suicide, the dead were mostly white males and females with some Latinos ages 18 and 24, with tightly cropped hair, dressed alike in dark pants and black Nikes. Initial reports have identified them as members of W.W. Higher Source, a self-sufficient new-age quasi-Christian group sustaining itself by developing Web pages. Welcome to the millennium!
March 27, 1997
The Web site itself features pictures of stars and nebulae dowloaded from the NASA site, and appears as business-like as anything else on the Web. Heaven's Gate another web site designed by the Higher Source team cryptically states that suicide is acceptable for cult members who want to ascend to a "higher level of life." In this case the "higher level of life" refers to a spaceship behind the Hale-Bopp comet.
Sam Koutchessahani, the owner of the hilltop mansion, rented it to members of the group on October 1996. At the time he told a neighbor that he couldn't sell the house and he was going to rent it to "bunch of monks." Members of the cult told Koutchesfahani, that they were sent to Earth as angels and met in "middle America." Locals thought the group was a bunch of harmless "computer nerds" and "space cadets" whom they described as "very conservative."

Thursday March 23, 2000

August 12 1995 was a Saturday much like any other in the urban sprawl of Arlington, Virginia. Except that an alert went out over email and on Usenet groups to say that 10 people - including two federal marshals, two computer technicians, one a former FBI agent, and several attorneys - were raiding the home of former Scientologist Arnaldo Lerma. Emails and postings flew back and forth, saying that the raiding party was seizing Lerma's computer, backups, disks, modem and scanner. A frequent Usenet poster and critic of his former brethren, Lerma was distraught. Many of his personal and business files were kept on his PC. Told that his hardware would be returned the following Monday, he was still waiting weeks later.

The implications of this mass suicide are both frightening and compelling. We will discuss what happened, the occult nature of the suicides, its ties to Christianity, and its implications for the coming New World Order. Our Christian Webmaster immediately logged on to Heaven's Gate web site, before it overloaded and saved it on his hard drive for our reference; so, we shall be able to quote verbatim from their site, examining their religious beliefs. We have a link from this article to a mirror site of Heaven's Gate so you can see for yourself.
Finally, we shall take a look at the coming Rapture of the Church and how this event may possibly tie into that blessed event, as well!!
The New World Order is coming! Are you ready? Once you understand what this New World Order really is, and how it is being gradually implemented, you will be able to see it progressing in your daily news!!

Closing Heaven's Gate
Bill Clark
At 4 p.m. on Wednesday 26th March an anonymous tip sent two sheriff's deputies to a huge mansion in Rancho Santa Fe, California where they found the bodies of 39 members of the 'Heaven's Gate' religious sect, covered with purple shrouds and lying on beds and mattresses throughout the house. Post-mortem examinations revealed that the 18 men and 21 women had killed themselves by taking a mixture of alcohol and phenobarbital and then placing plastic bags over their heads. Evident similarities
The news made headlines around the world and people made the obvious link with the mass killings of the Branch Davidian sect in Waco Texas led by David Koresh and those of the Jim Jones sect in Jonestown, Guyana. Similar events have taken place in Switzerland, France and Canada by members of the Order of the Solar Temple cult. The leader of that cult, the 69 year-old Joseph Di Mambro, claimed that in a previous life he had been a member of the Knight's Templars during the Crusades and that he would lead them, through death, to the planet Sirius. He founded a school near the Swiss border called 'The Centre for the Preparation of the New Age', the proceeds from which enabled him to purchase a 15-room mansion in Haute-Savoie. The Heaven's Gate sect was started in 1975 by Marshall Applewhite and his "partner" Bonnie Nettles. They told their followers that they were "two individuals from the next kingdom" who had come to earth to save those who were willing to be saved. Applewhite claimed to be the "Present Representative" of the spirit that filled Jesus Christ 2,000 years ago and he offered his followers a 17-step process of personal transformation.
