History Kultura Pilipinas, the University of Oregon's Philippine Student Organization was concieved in 1986. The small founding group started with the aim of providing Filipino students a sense of community, something that was non-existant before Kultura Pilipinas started. The group was conceptualized by business major Ruben Zamora , a junior at the time. During his studies at the University of Oregon, Zamora, born and raised in Manila, felt an urgent need to develop a group that would foster the needs of his fellow Filipino students; a link to back home. At the time, Filipino students, albeit few, did not have the resources to cope with the sometimes daunting challenges associated with living in a foreign country. "KP has been a great vehicle for us to showcase our culture" comments Valentina Zamora, one of the founding members of KP, as well as Ruben's sister. Although the group started out with only nine members, KP not only provided a sense of family for the Filipino students, but more importantly, it acted as a solid foundation from which the Filipino students could interact with American and international students on campus and establish a relationship with the Eugene/Springfield community.

Gentlemen: In pursuance of a long cherished design to establish an appropriate and lasting memorial of my beloved Daughter, H. Sophie Newcomb, deceased...I hereby donate to your Board the sum of $100,000, to be used in establishing the H. Sophie Newcomb Memorial College, in the Tulane University of Louisiana, for the higher education of white girls and young women. ...I further request that the education given shall look to the practical side of life as well as to literary excellence..." Newcomb's donation brought about an unusual arrangement for the education of women, with the creation of the first degree-granting college for women to be founded within a university in America. This model was later adopted by several colleges, including Barnard College of Columbia University and Pembroke College of Brown University. The idea of a coordinate college for women was first suggested to Newcomb by Ida Richardson, a woman with an interest in progressive politics and the wife of a Tulane University board member. The plan for the women's coordinate college provided for a separate president and faculty who were given power to determine policy and the course of study for Newcomb students. Newcomb's specifications for the College made available to young women the same opportunity for a liberal education as was being offered to young men through Tulane's College of Arts and Sciences and, at the same time, provided an environment in which men and women did not attend classes together.

It's Great!

I absolutely love this book to use with my second grade students! I teach only once a week for a half hour per class, so we do a page a week. The students love adding to their book each week, taking the time to play each game by themselves and with a partner, and it will be a great keepsake for every student! It does take time to run all the pages off with construction paper so plan ahead! This book covers most of the topics that my curriculum includes. This is a great find!! Learning Spanish

History Policies Meetings Committee Vacancies ... Secretariat Report to Senate on the 1997-98 Activities of SBRC This report summarizes the main activities of the Senate Budget Review Committee (SBRC) for 1997-98. The mandate of the committee is to review the approved annual budget and to make observations and/or recommendations regarding the consistency of the budget with the general needs and interests of the University. Although not directly involved in the budget planning process itself, Senate through SBRC has the opportunity to comment on and question past budget decisions, and in this way to influence future budget-related policies. 1. PRIVATIZATION To date, the only examples of privatization at Queen's are the MBA programs in the School of Business Finally, we raise some general questions which should be addressed whenever privatized programs are being considered. What criteria are used to decide the costs borne by the University and the privatized program when financial jurisdictions overlap? Whose responsibility is it to audit and monitor the financial reporting to ensure that these costs are being allocated appropriately? What are the net benefits to the faculty/university of the privatized program? What implications does privatization have for the quality of the educational program and the maintenance of academic standards? 2. TUITION POLICY

t existed only four years - a blip in the nearly 120-year history of the University. But for the more than 5,000 students who attended the Fort Trumbull campus as freshmen and sophomores, it was half of their UConn experience. From its opening on Sept. 16, 1946, to its closing in June 1950, Fort Trumbull held the distinction - one it still holds - of being the only residential branch campus of the University. Index to UConn History Pieces Click on the photos for a larger view. An aerial shot of the Fort Trumbull campus shows its proximity to Long Island Sound. During World War II it was a training ground for merchant marine sailors. Photos Courtesy University Archives Campus director Clarence Weber met University mascot Jonathan III when the Husky was dog-napped in 1948. The prank came just before a football game between the Fort Trumbull team and the junior varsity squad from the Storrs campus. Fort Trumbull won. More than 8,000 students were enrolled in the University of Connecticut in the 1946-47 academic year, four times the number registered in the period shortly preceding the war. And of those 8,000 students, more than half were veterans.

    96. Types Of Activites In The Arts

    http://home.att.net/~jaohlma/writings/activity-arts/
Author's Note: This essay is another product of 1995's "Directed Research in Performance" led by Dr. Richard Kennell. The question that was posed to the class this time was something to the effect of "if we're here to study performance, why are we using time to conduct research?" I believe it was because I was studying musicology/music history as well as performance that I felt a particular resonance with this question. Perhaps I was attempting to justify the process to myself. Frankly, however, I think it was more the case that I felt it was incumbant upon myself as the resident "scholar" to justify the research process to the unwashed heathen I mean, to the performance students. Once I had the paper written up, I brought it to Dr. Kennell and we discussed some of its content. He also said that he would copy it off and distribute it to the rest of the class to read and discuss near the end of the semester. Reviewing the paper now, flaws in my reasoning and the my underlying ideological bias seem obvious. Nonetheless, the writing and defending of it before an audience of my peers was a valuable experience. One last thing: that third word in the title, the one that, even now, you're probably thinking is a typographical error? It is not. It is an alternate spelling and I like it better than 'holistic'. Come on people, would I really go to the trouble of writing this and then misspell a key word in the title?
