Why Support Harborivew Medical Center
Perhaps more than any other institution in the Puget Sound region, Harborview reaches out to the entire community. Harborview is one of the two teaching hospitals of the University of Washington, and is the only Level I Pediatric and Adult Trauma Center serving Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. Harborview is a safety net for anyone in a traumatic accident. The facility is ready to care for the most complex injuries and illness 24 hours a day. No one is ever turned away from Harborview because of inability to pay. Nearly 70 percent of Harborview's patients are reimbursed through Medicare, Medicaid or are uninsured. Harborview does not receive operating support from King County, and provides more non-reimbursable patient care than any other hospital in the Puget Sound region. As reimbursement shrinks, our need for private support grows. Increasingly, we rely on the generosity of our staff, our community friends, and corporate and foundation philanthropy. The dedication of those who work at Harborview is demonstrated each year in our Staff Campaign. In 2002, more than 1,240 Harborview faculty and staff participated in the Staff Campaign, raising $235,000 for patient care enhancement at the hospital.

Lincoln High School basketball players celebrate their victory at an all-school pep rally. Lincoln High celebrates basketball championship One sportscaster said Lincoln High School shortened his life over the incredible High School Boys Basketball Tournament this March. It was a weekend to remember. For only the fourth time in tournament history, two Lincoln teams faced off in the final playoffs: Lincoln Southeast High School and Lincoln High. In a breath-taking comeback, Lincoln High won the final game and took home the top trophy for the first time since the 1950’s. Lincoln High celebrated on the following Monday with an all-school pep rally featuring the players, coaches and plenty of cheering. “This group of guys never, ever gave up,” Lincoln High Athletic Director Larry Parker said. Mayor Don Wesely told students the tournament could be turned into a movie: “What a fantastic season, what a great moment. This will be remembered for decades. They’ll always be talking about the 2003 team.”
