As a result of the boom in school Web sites, CDE has found it impossible to keep up with all the new and newly addressed sites. We will continue to list links on the CDE Web site to any Colorado school district Web site that desires a listing. Please contact CDE Web Support Services with information on any new or newly addressed district sites. These district Web sites can then provide links to their school Web pages. Alternatively, several national and international directories exist for the sole purpose of providing links to school Web sites and have the automated procedures in place to make comprehensive listings possible. Below are two of the most complete directories. Colorado schools are encouraged to sign up with one or more of these directories.

Palm Awards $2.3 Million in Technology Grants to U.S. K-12 Schools and Colleges
Educators Will Study How Handhelds Affect Teaching and Learning

CHICAGO, June 25, 2001 In its second round of grants from the Palm Education Pioneer (PEP) program, Palm, Inc. (Nasdaq: PALM) today announces it is awarding $2.3 million in Palm(TM) handheld units to elementary and secondary schools, colleges and universities to enable innovative teaching and learning, and to gain insight into how handheld computers affect teaching and learning. This research will help determine best practices for integrating handhelds into curriculum and teacher training. Palm named the grant recipients on the opening day of the National Educational Computing Conference (NECC) here at McCormick Place.
Palm, a pioneer in the field of mobile and wireless Internet solutions and a leading provider of handheld computers, awarded grants to 87 individual K-12 classrooms and nine "research hubs" for a total of more than 175 classrooms. The first PEP grants were awarded to 15 K-12 schools in January. SRI International's Center for Technology in Learning (CTL) in Menlo Park, Calif., administers the program, and develops and conducts evaluations to study the learning uses, experiences and effectiveness of Palm handhelds for teaching and learning. "We believe that partnering with educators in doing research on the best practices and impact of handheld computers in education is one of the most important projects we can undertake," said Mike Lorion, vice president of education markets at Palm, Inc. "Research from PEP grants gives educators valuable insight into how handheld technology can be used in teaching and learning. This information helps us to create tools that evolve with the needs of education. We added new research hubs to broaden our research and also extend some studies into the college pre-service and in-service environment."

Dr. John Murdoch: “I am very pleased to be able to announce that voters approved a two-year 6.8 million dollar supplemental levy. I wish to personally thank all who have contributed to the success of the levy. It does not solve all of our financial concerns. However, the passage of the levy has been an important step.” View a PowerPoint presentation to explain the budget needs of District 91. In cooperation with the Albertson’s Foundation, NWEA, and the State Board of Education, teachers all across Idaho will be creating model curriculum guides that support the state standards and ISAT tests. BROAD-BASED TAX CUT BILLS INTO LAW
K-12 investment up $52 million; Marriage tax penalty completely eliminated (MERIDIAN)
Joined by government students, legislators, and the Superintendent of Public Instruction, Governor Dirk Kempthorne signed into law the largest public schools budget in Idaho’s history. And as thousands of Idahoans work to finish filing their income tax returns before tonight’s midnight deadline, Kempthorne also signed a broad-based $29 million tax cut package into law – which includes the complete elimination of the marriage tax penalty in Idaho. The Governor also signed the higher education funding bill (H 755) into law at a ceremony at Centennial High School. The Public Schools Appropriations Bill for the 2001 fiscal year (H 805) provides Idaho’s K-12 schools with a general fund budget of $873 million for more than 245,000 students and 13,000 teachers. That budget – which Kempthorne called for in his January budget proposal to the Legislature – provides an increased investment of $52 million above current-year levels, a 6.4-percent increase.
