KEMPTHORNE, HP ANNOUNCE DONATIONS
OF COMPUTER EQUIPMENT
Equipment used at National Governors Association meeting goes to Idaho libraries
(BOISE) 38 libraries across Idaho have received computers, printers and other equipment used at the National Governors Association Annual Meeting held in Boise, Governor Dirk Kempthorne and Hewlett-Packard officials announced today. $150,000 worth of computers, printers and network hardware will be used by the mostly rural community libraries to improve public access and update technology for library patrons. The equipment was donated by HP for use during the NGA Annual Meeting in Boise July 13-16. "The NGA Annual Meeting in Boise was a great success. It brought our state and our capital city national attention and contributed several million dollars to the state's economy," Kempthorne said. "I wanted to make sure we were able to extend the benefits of hosting the nation's governors to more of the state. That's why I'm so pleased that Hewlett-Packard has worked with my office and the Idaho State Library to donate this much-needed, nearly-new hardware to rural libraries all over our state to give more of our citizens the latest in computers and Internet access." "As a company, HP has a vision of the future where technology is accessible to everyone as a means to learn, work and benefit from information," said Mark Falconer, Northwest Government Affairs Manager. This was a great opportunity to enhance the ability of libraries to provide this access which will supplement the valuable information and services they already provide."

Idaho families are encouraged to make libraries a part of their family memories during Idaho Family Reading Week and throughout the year. Idaho's public and district libraries are planning activities that encourage families to spend time reading, talking and doing family activities that will include the public library. Public libraries offer families a place in the community where they can connect with each other and spend time together. State Librarian Dr. Charles Bolles is challenging families to visit their public library and spend more time reading and talking with children. He is also inviting librarians to create family friendly environments and activities that promote family togetherness.
