The President of the United States oversees the Executive Branch of Government, including the Cabinet agencies and hundreds of independent agencies, departments, commissions, boards and offices. The President also acts as Commander in Chief of all U.S. Armed Services throughout the world. Federal Legislative Branch The 435 Members of the House of Representatives and the 100 Senators of the U.S. Congress. The House and Senate write, debate and vote on laws that must be considered and signed by the President. They are also responsible for working with the President to prepare and approve the annual U.S. federal budget. Federal Judicial Branch The courts of the Federal Judiciary hear cases that require their interpretation of U.S. laws or the Constitution as applied to decisions of state and local courts. The U.S. Supreme Court, Federal Courts of Appeal, and Federal Circuit Courts are the mainstays of the Judicial Branch.
