Welcome to Exeter-West Greenwich! We are a regional school district, formed in 1965, serving two fast-growing towns in southwest Rhode Island. For its first twenty-five years, the district provided education through grade 8 and tuitioned high schoolers to neighboring communities. The opening of the Exeter-West Greenwich Regional Junior-Senior High School in 1990 embodied the communities' commitment to quality public education. Since that time, our schools have become community centers, district finances have stabilized and strengthened, and a focus on increasing expectations guides our work. This is expressed in our mission statement - Challenge to Learn, and most concretely realized in a steady increase in the percentage of students seeking higher education: from 54% in the new high school's first graduating class to 80% in recent classes.
The EWG web site is a work in progress, as is the district and all its members. We aspire to great things and take pride in the success of our students, the excellence of our staff, and our role in the community. We desire this web site to be a window into our school system, providing information about the school system with illustrations that bring it to life.

    HOW DID INDIVIDUAL SCHOOLS FARE?
A GUIDE TO THE NUMBERS The SchoolMatch auditing firm developed the effectiveness level as a way to measure how districts of similar demographic composition should perform. It is derived by analyzing data from dozens or even hundreds of districts that are supposed to be similar to Redlands - called the "cohort" group. The mean is the average score for that group. The district status is how Redlands fared. In the chart labeled "district results," for example, districts within Redlands' cohort group should have 12 percent of juniors and seniors enrolled in advanced placement courses. The average percentage enrolled in advanced placement courses is 10 percent, while Redlands 16.8 percent of juniors and seniors in the Redlands district are enrolled in advanced placement courses. Norm-referenced tests are weighted for comparison purposes. Criterion-referenced tests show what percentage of students have mastered a subject area. INDEX OF ARTICLES

State law requires that children be 5 years old by Sept. 30 to enter kindergarten.
For specific dates and times, click here.

To find out what school your child is zoned for, parents can call the Transportation Department, at 893-5812.
It is important that parents register their children for kindergarten during pre-registration if possible because if the schools know in advance how many children to expect for kindergarten, then they can be well prepared on the first day of school. This ensures a good start to school for students, parents and teachers.
Parents need to gather several important documents for registration:
Birth certificate, Social Security card and proof of residence are required for pre-registration in the spring. All other documents must be presented at the school by the first day of school.
