BBC Becoming WebWise: a trips overview
Here's a rough guide to the 8 trips and 24 landmarks that make up the BBC Becoming WebWise course. Clearly some trips will take longer to complete than others, and remember that, although the trips are organised in a linear sequence, learners may want to make their own way around them. The trip content is designed to prepare learners for the BBC Becoming WebWise assessment and covers all learning objectives in the unit curriculum. However, you might consider emphasising the aims of the unit, when supporting learners:
  • Identify the current range of digital technologies for Internet access and their functions. Use Internet navigation software, user interfaces and software applications. Develop understanding and awareness of the range of Internet services and tools. Identify the potential application of the Internet for an individual's circumstances.

There are hundreds, perhaps thousands, of children-oriented World Wide Web sites that focus on homework help, activities or entertainment. Most of them are easy to navigate, most have an educational slant, and many have pages for parents and teachers. But beware: Almost all made-for-youngsters Web sites sell merchandise or link to sites that do.
