INDUSTRIAL VAUCLUSE Industrial activity in Vaucluse, long linked to water, to the natural mineral resources, and to agriculture, included traditional activities of textiles, paper making and milling. Industry expanded during the 19th century with the addition of pasteboard article production, metallurgy, refractory products, faience ware, ochre, candied fruits, and the maddre dye industry. The thriving economic activity of the 1800’s continued into the 20th century, with new businesses related to both agriculture and the underground mineral wealth in Vaucluse, and with the appareance of a new generation of technology which was midely used by Vaucluse businesses in the mechanics, electronics and parachemistry field. Through its civil and religious monuments since time immemorial, its scenery and festivals, Vaucluse already enjoys international fame. We must now add our local indutrial culture, the savoir-faire which is revealed in our buildings, tools and products. Such is the goal of this brochure.
  • Industry related to mineral resources
Mineral supply in Vaucluse is rich and varied and has been utilised for many centuries : ochre, clays, building stone, sand, gypsum, limestone, coal. There are many signs testifyng to man’s use of these natural resources.

NOTE: PLEASE do NOT write to me requesting additional information on anthropological topics; this list comprises most of what i have to offer to the community - i simply do not have the time to field the numerous individual requests for information-gathering that i regularly receive. Thanks.
    Foreword
This is a comprehensive list of Internet Resources which are directly and primarily of anthropological relevance; in order to retain manageability, i have omitted sites which only tangentially deal with anthropology, such as native issues, "primitive art", history, etc. I regret that i do not have the space to thank everyone who's contributed to this list over the years, although many of you are out there...of course, any errors or omissions are purely my own; if you come across any, i'd love to hear from you! Please feel free to contact me with additions, corrections, or requests to reprint all or portions of this document at: alleycat@ptd.net
    Take my list, please!
I am finding myself with insufficient time to update this list as frequently as it ought to be; if you are interested in dedicating yourself to taking over and maintaining this list, and have the capability to add a search engine, please

    DRUIDS, THE
Oh, God, why does not the sea cover the land? Why are we left to linger?
    DRUMADOON
    DRUSWAS
The son of King Tryffin of Denmark. While he is listed as a follower of Arthur, one story (#92) tells how he was to meet Arthur in a single combat. He craftily told his three pet griffins to go ahead and kill the first man who came to the field, expecting it to be Arthur. However, Drudwas's sister was Arthur's mistress and she delayed her lover. Drudwas himself arrived first and the griffins, not recognizing him, killed him. See: TWENTY-FOUR KNIGHTS.
    DUBH
(doov) (means Black) She was a druidess who, on discovering that her husband had another wife, drowned her rival. Her husband then cast at her with his sling and she fell into a pool which was called Dubhlinn or Dublin. The Romans called it Nigratherma - literally Black Pool, but perhaps a more ancient name for Dublin is Baile Atha Cliath or the Town of the Ford of Hurdles. Michael Scott in his IRISH FOLK AND FAIRY TALES, 'The Dawn', claims that it was the 'savage northern Vikings who discovered the small, almost circular valley surrounded by the mountains on the east coast of the fresh green land they sought to conquer, and there they would build the city they would call Dubh Linn.'
    DUBH LACHA
She was the wife of Mongan, born on the same night as he. She was loved by Brandubh, to whom Mongan was tricked into giving her up. However, with the help of Cuimhne, the hag, she was regained.

Dr Paul Schofield of the Department of Anatomy has won a research grant from the National Kidney Research Fund. He is investigating Wilms' tumour, which is the most common form of cancer of the kidney in children under the age of 15. One in 10,000 children develop such a tumour. Although the majority of children may be cured through chemotherapy, those who do not respond have a less promising outlook, and the recurrence of tumours in two or three years in both groups is a significant problem. Dr Schofield's work will aim to develop a diagnostic marker, which will indicate which children will respond less well and the likelihood of the recurrence of the tumour.

Each Research Council is established by Royal Charter and has a specific mission statement agreed with the Government. Doctrine of Rebirth (Section II Chapter VII)
‘It seems as if Ossian’s was a premature return. To-day he might find comrades come back from Tir-na-nog for the uplifting of their race. Perhaps to many a young spirit standing up among us Cailte might speak as to Mongan, saying: "I was with thee, with Finn." ‘ — A. E. Re-birth and Otherworld — As a Christian doctrine — General historical survey — According to the Barddas MSS.; according to ancient and modern authorities — Reincarnation of the Tuatha De Danann — King Mongan’s re-birth — Etain’s birth — Derinot’s pre-existence - Tuan’s re-birth — Re-birth among Brythons — Arthur as a reincarnate hero — Non-Celtic parallels - Re-birth among modern Celts: in Ireland; in Scotland; in the Isle of Man; in Wales; in Cornwall; in Brittany — Origin and evolution of Celtic Re-birth Doctrine. RELATION WITH THE OTHERWORLD HOWEVER much the conception of the Otherworld among the ancient Greeks may have differed from that among the Celts, it was to both peoples alike inseparably connected with their belief in re-birth. Alfred Nutt, who studied this intimate relation more carefully perhaps than any other Celtic folk-lorist, has said of it :— ‘ In Greek mythology as in Irish, the conception of re-birth proves to be a dominant factor of the same religious system in which Elysium is likewise an essential feature.’ Death, as many initiates have proclaimed in their mystical writings, is but a going to that Otherworid from this world, and Birth a
