Adam Fulford reports on yesterday's friendly between Japan and Jamaica. October 17th, 2002
Japan 1-1 Jamaica It's pointless to draw any conclusions from one game, but it's hard to welcome Zicoism with open arms on the basis of this performance. Zico probably wanted a resounding victory in this game, but he got a hollow draw, and the crowd didn't seem wildly exuberant about a point at home versus the Reggae Boyz. Jamaica were individually outclassed at times, but they seemed to know that a draw was a realistic objective and they played for it and got it. With a little luck, they might have won 2-1. If Japan had had a little luck (or a couple more games under their belts), they might have won 3-0. In the first half, Japan's champagne soccer fizzed briefly from time to time.

The biggest problem is that both teams are loaded with mature stars at key positions who are unlikely to figure in the 2006 picture, and thus unlikely to be selected now, while in many places where there are young stars on the two powerhouses, they are in positions that overlap with each other and the foreign legion. My conclusion? He's blowing smoke and trying to stimulate candidates to more strenuous exertions for their J-League clubs by emphasizing the importance of team results.

Birmingham, , UK
Jamaican-born artist Roy Douglas, who combines the industrial elements of Birmingham with Caribbean influences, is displaying a fusion of these two cultures in an exciting new exhibition at Soho House, part of Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. Using wood, coconut shell and fibre glass resin, he creates individual sculptures which reflect the city’s industrial nature. He blends traditional skills of wood working with methods of moulding gleaned from his experience of the manufacturing industries in Birmingham. Much of his work is highly personal and reflects his early life in Jamaica, his family and his memories. He also takes inspiration from every day life and his pieces have a practical function. Examples include the mythical ‘The Owl and the Pussycat’, figures made from coconut shell and fibre glass resin; Roy’s Auntie Celeste in her Sunday best; and a three-foot figure called Smiley! Says Roy: I really enjoy expressing myself through art and craft work, even though I’ve begun this later in life. After I visited Jamaica in 1988 I had a strong desire to come back to Birmingham and turn my thoughts into something tangible. I’m delighted that my sculptures will be shown at Soho House – I am very keen for people to come and see, touch and enjoy my work.

SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS
It has been established that Jamaica has a strong neec for additional sources of cheap animal protein. Fish cutture has possibilities which must be considered in view of the development plan for the country. The study reportechere established information relevant to decision-making about fish culture in Jamaica, delineated areas in which information deficiencies exist, and suggested means for obtaining information needed for decision-making.
A. Facts related to decision-making are:
A sizable demand exists for fresh fish in Jamaica. This result is manifest through:
(a) high prices of other fish in existing markets, and
(b) high prices of competitive high-protein food products.
The labor supply for fisheries operations should be adequate to begin tnis enterprise in tne country with selectea farmers. Extension education is a necessary complement to a fishery venture.
Byproduct feedstuffs are available in sufficient quantities to begin fishery operations in certain areas.
An adequate marketing and transportation infrastructure is available for beginning a fish culture enterprise.

Island Debates National Hero Status for Reggae Superstar
By Howard Campbell, IPS, 18 April 2000. Around the world the dreadlocked image of reggae music popularised by Bob Marley is synonymous with Jamaica, the island where he was born 55 years ago. But for many Jamaicans, Marley's international acclaim does not mean that he is any kind of role model for the country.

The Straits Times, 3 February 2001. Hedonism III resort's plans for the 'world's largest nude wedding' has created a stir. During the past three decades, as tourism has boomed, Jamaicans have quietly endured visitors' stereotypes of their country as a place to frolic by the Caribbean Sea and leave 'civilisation' behind.

Question (Jan 15, 2003 6:13:37 PM) Jamaica has 60 Members of Parliament collecting approximately $2.2 million dollars per annum. Would it not be a better situation to have only 14 Members of Parliament who were not appointed to any ministerial positions? (This would allow Jamaica to save over $100 million dollars in salary given to politicians. This did not take into consideration the fringe benefits, which is paid out). (Jan 15, 2003 6:13:37 PM)

chance? Well, let me tell you a paradise of wonder awaits on the smallisland of jamaica. it. Everything about jamaica is just perfect.
http://www.teenink.com/Past/2002/March/Travel/JamaicaMeCrazy.html
H ave you ever wondered what the perfect place to visit would be if you had the chance? Well, let me tell you: a paradise of wonder awaits on the small island of Jamaica. Although it's not as small as it seems (which is a good thing), it is the perfect place to go. When I went, I had the greatest time of my life. The Jamaicans are very nice people with a cool accent. My friends haven't stopped listening to Jamaican music since they first heard it.
Everything about Jamaica is just perfect. There are so many places to go and things to do. There are white sandy beaches and the ocean is so crystal clear that you can see everything from coral to colorful fish; the snorkeling is great. Another great aspect is all the fresh fruit, and how much better it tastes. Some people there carry things around on their heads in a very unique way: they wrap cloth around their heads and then place the object on top and position it so it stays balanced. It's amazing!
One of my favorite things about Jamaica is the sugar cane because it is pure sugar. One of the most interesting things I have ever seen were the Glistening Waters. The name describes exactly what it is: one of a few lakes in the world that allows a rare organism to live in it. Have you ever wondered about fireflies and why they have a green glow? Well, when you touch this water, it glows bright green exactly like a firefly, except there are millions of these organisms that are so small you can't feel them. We got to swim there in the dark, which was really amazing.
