Geography of Jordan Jordan is a relatively small country situated at the junction of the Levantine and Arabian areas of the Middle East . The country is bordered on the north by Syria , to the east by Iraq , and by Saudi Arabia on the east and south. To the west is Israel and the occupied West Bank , while Jordan 's only outlet to the sea, the Gulf of Aqaba , is to the south. Jordan occupies an area of approximately 96,188 square kilometers including the Dead Sea , making it similar in size to Austria or Portugal . However, Jordan 's diverse terrain and landscape belie its actual size, demonstrating a variety usually found only in large countries.
Economic Overview
Led by an active private sector, Jordan’s economy is free market oriented. The ownership of enterprises is largely private, the exception being public sector involvement in the mining industry. Prices (except for a few subsidized goods), interest rates, and wages are generally determined by market forces.
Jordan's economy is mainly service oriented. The service sector, which is comprised of financial services, trade, transportation, communication, tourism, construction and education, contributes 71% to GDP and employs two-thirds of the labor force. The remaining 29% is contributed by the agricultural and industrial sectors.

climate and geography This ain't a Hawaiian vacation, folks. We've seen many Southern-set weyrs beat the frolicking-tropical-island stereotype to death, making it sound as if, quite frankly, the closest they ever got to a jungle was the Discovery Channel. So we thought a bit of realism was in order. The temperature is not "pleasantly warm," the waters fraught with riptides, the forest interior difficult to navigate, and the beaches rather littered with driftwood and various other junk. But yes, it's very beautiful. Dangerous, maddening, difficult but beautiful. The Far Jordan climate is tropical, with temperatures typically ranging from 70 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit (22 degrees to 44 degrees Celsius) and near-100% humidity throughout the year. Viz: hot and humid. Forget "warm" hot. Annual rainfall is 100 inches (250 cm). Sitting right on Pern's equator, the Jordans are barraged by monsoons from both the northwest amd southeast, leaving the beaches littered with natural debris. The "storm" or "wet" season is the most active time for monsoons, typically called "squalls." (Definition of the term "squall" has changed to be synonymous with "monsoon" or "typhoon," words considered to be archaic.) This lasts for seven months, from the Pernese equivalent of February to August. The "fair" season lasts for six, from September to January. Rain still comes during the fair season, but when it does generally interrupts the sunshine only briefly; most of it falling in short, strong bursts. Storm season squalls, to those who've never visited a tropical climate, can last for days or sevendays, with torrents of water pouring over the land. The raindrops are fat, heavy, and become rather painful if one is unprotected for a while.

    http://www.wws.princeton.edu/~wws401c/geography.html
Geography of Water Resources The Jordan River Valley stretches from Mount Hermon in the north to the Dead Sea in the south and includes Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria. Eighty percent of the basin, however, is in Israel, Jordan, and the West Bank, which do not have other significant surface water sources, and have only limited groundwater sources. Jordan relies on the surface waters of the basin for 75% of its water needs, while Israel relies on the surface waters for only 30% of its water consumption because it has larger aquifers from which to draw water. Syria relies on the basin minimally, for the Euphrates River and other smaller basins fall within its borders. Israel and Palestine have an combined 1.4 BCM/yr of renewable water resources, with an additional 450 MCM/yr captured by Israeli water reuse and rainwater collection for a total of about 2 BCM/yr. Already a deficit of water exists between what is used and what is available in the environment. In 1994, Israel and the Palestinian territories used approximately 2.1 BCM of water. Map of the Regional Drainage Basins The Sea of Galilee is the principal aboveground storage reservoir in the basin with a surface area of 170 square kilometers and a volume of approximately 4000 MCM. Its water derives from three sources: the Hasbani, Dan and Banias River, which merge at a point six kilometers within Israel’s northern border. At present, the water level in the Sea of Galilee has fallen more than 213 meters below sea level and is now no more than 4 to 6 meters deep at any point. This low quantity of water threatens water quality, including the toxic algae and lowers the water pressure that keeps out the salt water springs flowing into the bottom of the lake.

So you're about to get a degree in geography. Now what? This course will assist you in exploring your options whether they be graduate school or a job in the real world. We will discuss the various subdisciplines of geography, what skills are needed to work within that subdiscipline, and how to identify and market the skills you are developing as a geographer. To fulfill the writing component part of this course, we will study the craft of research and learn how to identify a topic of current concern in geography, frame a research question, craft good arguments, and present your information as both a written and oral presentation. It touches the Dead Sea and the Sea of Galilee, so it is not entirely landlocked. Jordan also does have a single port on the Gulf of Aqaba , pictured in the lower left-hand corner of the map below. * Due to its location, the country has three distinct geographical regions or environments : the Jordan Valley, the Mountain Heights Plateau of the East Bank, and the Badia region, or the East Bank desert area. The Jordan Valley The Jordan Valley edges the western side of the country. Extending through Turkey, Lebanin, Syria, the Dead Sea, Aqaba, and eastern Africa, this geographical feature forms Africa's Great Rift Valley. The Jordanian portion of the valley has distinctive environmental and geographical characteristics that effectively make it the country's fertile crescent area. Within the boundaries of Jordan, the valley is intersected by the Jordan River. The presence of the river has added to the warmth, fertility, and precipitation of the northern part of the valley, known as the

Palestine, currently under occupation, is located on the East coast of the Miditerannean Sea, West of Jordan and to the south of Lebanon. The territory of Palestine covers around 10,435 square miles (almost same size as the state of Vermont in the USA - that is, pretty small.) [
Out of this territory, there are 10,163 square miles of land area. The rest is water: half of the area of the Dead Sea (al-BaHr al-Mayyit), Huleh Lake (BuHayrat al-Huuleh) which was dried by the occupation and Tiberias Lake (BuHayrat Tabariyyah) which is also known as the Sea of Galilee (BaHr al-jaliil). Topography and Terrain
Palestine can be divided into four main distinct regions:
    • Coastal and Inner Plains:
These are among the best fertile land in Palestine and elsewhere, with adequate resources of irrigation (from rainfall and underground water). They are where most of the Palestinian citrus groves used to stand. The coastal stretch is divided by Jabal al-Karmel (Mount Carmel) into the plain of Akka (Acre) and the plain of Palestine (also called Saruunah). The inner part consists, largely, of Marj bin 3aamir. This one is triangular in shape, with Jenin and Nazareth (An-NaaSirah) as its base and the SE edge of the Akka plain as its sharp corner.

nlike Islam's Koran , which commands Muslims to force the entire planet to submit to literal control by Islam, the Jewish Torah promises the children of Israel a modest and reasonable allotment of land. Israel (in yellow ), is a democratic nation 1/19th the size of California, surrounded by 21 hostile Arab/Islamic dictatorships with 640 times her size, 60 times her population and ALL the oil. How dare Arab propagandists call Israel "expansionist!" And how dare anyone believe them! How can Israel, which occupies one-sixth of one percent of the lands called Arab, be responsible for the political dissatisfaction of 21 Arab countries? How can the 13 million Jews in the world (almost 5 million fewer than they were in 1939!) be blamed for the problems of the 250 million Arabs, who have brotherly ties to one billion Muslims worldwide? Israel is an oasis of Western Democracy and Judeo/Christian morality in the middle of an otherwise totalitarian Middle East. For 55 years, Israel has sought peaceful coexistence with neighbors dedicated to her destruction. Thus far only Egypt and Jordan have formalized a peace treaty. In reality, the peace is tenuous.
