It is one of the goals of the Kentucky Corn Growers Association to provide educational programs to Kentucky's producers, schools, and general public. The following are ways we are working to accomplish those goals. Developed for 4th and 5th grade students, this comprehensive corn curriculum follows KERA guidelines and introduces students to corn production and use through science, social studies, math, literature, economics. The curriculum includes lesson plans, activities and worksheets that you can use as part of an entire unit, or individually. Corn in the Classroom Online Curriculum With the help of the KyCGA, the University of Kentucky added another program to it's "Gee Whiz in Agriculture" line up titled "Now Ear This," a thirty-minute show dedicated to corn and it's many uses. This show is aired on KET several times a year so schools may copy the program and add it to their libraries. The program is accompanied by a worksheet packet written under KERA guidlines. The KyCGA also has a limited number of copies of the program and the worksheets that will be made available to Kentucky educators. For more information about the Gee Whiz series, contact

Follow the issues informing the legislative session, check the daily calendar, and share your opinions in our forum. FRANKFORT, Ky. Toting signs and chanting, ''We vote for you, you vote for us,'' more than 20,000 teachers and school supporters swarmed to Frankfort yesterday demanding that lawmakers find more money for education. They want more money for schools, higher teacher salaries and better health benefits. The rally was reminiscent of one in 1988 pressing for education reform that also drew as many as 20,000 people to the state capital.

KYVU, KCTCS announce on-line associate degree
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 15, 2000) - Students will be able to earn an associate degree without leaving the comforts of home because of a cooperative venture between the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) and the Kentucky Virtual University (KYVU). The two institutions announced today the creation of Kentucky's first totally on-line associate degree. Students will be able to complete the Associate in Arts Degree, which focuses on a business curriculum, entirely over the Internet. The degree consists of courses that are designed to transfer to bachelor's degree programs in business offered by Kentucky universities. "We live in a 24-hour-a-day society, and our colleges must accommodate the busy lifestyles of today's students," said Dr. Michael B. McCall, KCTCS president. "This on-line degree will enable us to deliver a quality education whenever and wherever a student needs it." "KCTCS is a leader in on-line learning, and this complete AA degree available anywhere, anytime marks one of the most advanced concepts for delivering full degree programs in a student-friendly fashion," added Dr. Mary Beth Susman, CEO of the virtual university.

She needed, but could not afford, an apartment where the everyday maintenance could be taken care of for her. Because this type of affordable housing was not available for Mattie, she was forced to move into the local elderly health care center. The conversion of a vacant hardware store in Mattie’s downtown into ten apartments for very low- and low-income residents of her county became the answer to her prayers. Now Mattie is a resident of the converted hardware store, known as Lexington Avenue Apartments, and her water, gas, sewer and trash pickup service charges are included in her set monthly rent payment.
