Introduction
In a relaxed environment carefully explore exemplary web resources, lesson plans and listservs which complement the Kindergarten curriculum. Time will be spent on managing and organizing bookmarks, copying and pasting from the web, tips for searching the web and other web concerns. Time will be allotted to create a classroom web page and an online calendar for home assignments and communication. Participants will leave with a comprehensive handout, accompanying online resources, and simple Web-based projects and ideas. The target audience would be kindergarten classroom teachers, new teachers and occasional teachers.
Emphasis will be placed on exploring sites which link to strands in YOUR curriculum.

Hillel School
Kindergarten Program
A goal of the kindergarten program is to instill a love of learning and an eagerness to attend school. A developmental approach to education is emphasized and children are encouraged to learn at a pace and in ways best suited to their needs. Because of smaller class sizes, the kindergarten program offers individualized instruction for each child, as well as small and large group instruction, when appropriate. The kindergarten Hebrew program is designed to teach the child about his/her heritage and develop pride in being Jewish. The teaching and implementation of Jewish values, such as caring for one another, respecting each other's rights, giving charity, learning ethics through laws and customs of the Torah, are considered extremely important. Prayers, Shabbat, holidays, Bible tales, music, art, field trips, films and Hebrew reading readiness are all integrated into the Jewish experience. Hillel School has a warm and exciting environment. Games, activities, movement and fun are utilized to reach these goals. Indeed, our kindergarten provides a strong academic foundation for future growth, without losing sight of the beauty of being young and having ample time to play!

I. GRANTS AND SCHOLARSHIPS FOR RESEARCH
In accordance with the contemporary practice of portfolio training that I have taken, and even long before that, I have gathered quite a number of comments in relation to small children`s education, student- teaching, scientific research and even hobbies. Here are some samples: A. [To the Beginning] B. [To the Beginning] ...Ulla Hörkönen is an enthusiastic, thrilling lecturer, bringing fascinating examples from true life, able to wrap the listeners in her own eagerness, telling them how to take notes; she is a splendid leader, knowing how to maintain undwindling interest to the very end, she knows truly much, speaks as a human to another human, without being afraid to stretch her own personality to the utmost limits. She always made her point, her views left an impact on the listeners, although one would have hoped that the lecture on playing had been wider in scope than just covering home and role plays. Such was the feedback after an in-service training course in further development of the day care system for children from one to six years of age in 1991 in Vantaa.

  • Use the PEER sequence to ask questions and facilitate discussion about stories.
Extended Discourse
  • Enrich children's vocabulary by providing pictures and discussions that relate to stories.

Play a listening game in which the children blend an onset and rhyme that you pronounce separately. Example: b...at, bat . When you first play the game, begin by using words that are in the same family, such as: hat cat fat . When the children become proficient at this type of activity, change it so that you keep the onset sound and change the rhyme: s...and sand s...un sun s...eal seal

School Information Our multi-cultural faculty provides an international education for children from all over the world. All instruction is in English and non-native speakers are provided with English as a Second Language (ESL) teaching supported by qualified professionals. Small classes provide individual attention and allow the teachers to respond to a wide range of abilities. The school board and an active Parent Teacher Association work together to provide a co-educational, non-sectarian education for international students at the elementary, middle and high school levels. The curriculum generally follows an American academic program and draws heavily from the best of various international practices around the globe. The school is accredited by both the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and is a member of the European Council of International Schools. Extra-curricular activities offered by the school vary from year to year. Past activities have included computer crafts, cooking, drama, international travel opportunities, and many other activities of interest to our students. Computers are an integral part of the instructional program and classes begin in kindergarten.

Kindergarten Kindergarten is a busy place at Simis Elementary School. In our half-day program, children develop speaking, listening, writing, and reading skills through music, poetry, physical movement, letter games, phonics and daily writing and reading activities. Each week we learn new sight words to strengthen our emergent reading skills, and learn letter formation using the D'Nealian alphabet. Mathematics is a hands-on experience here at Simis. We include pattern blocks, snap-cubes, wooden blocks, and many types of small manipulatives to introduce and reinforce the concepts of counting, geometric shapes, sorting, making patterns and measuring. Additionally, we solve word problems, first as a whole group, and then later recording our work on paper. Science, Social Studies, Computer Skills and Library are included in a busy week, and we have a music specialist, Jeffrey Sadow, visit our classrooms 15 times a year for rhythm, music and body movement activities. The Kindergarten teachers plan together on a weekly basis and often coordinate activities that include all children in the grade level, such as Kindergarten Rodeo, making gingerbread houses, and celebrating the 100th Day of School. The Extended Day Kindergarten (EDK) program extends kindergarten to a full day and is tuition based. Children in the program enjoy cooking, additional art and science projects, music, language arts, and math activities in addition to lots of time to develop and expand social skills. Again, the EDK teachers plan together on a weekly basis to encourage participation whenever possible.
