PTA Welcome to Shady Grove's Kindergarten Language Arts The language arts curriculum is centered around learning letters, sounds, and emergent reading skills. Children are immersed in a print-rich and literature-rich environment. Children also participate in daily activities which encourage communicating ideas orally and through pictures and writing. Language skills are integrated into science and social studies thematic activities. Math Kindergartners at Shady Grove participate in the Silver Burdett Ginn Kindergarten math program. This program covers sorting, patterning, basic geometry, time, money, measurement, addition, and subtraction. In addition, teachers at Shady Grove rely on many hands-on activities which enable students to develop a strong number sense while giving them the tools needed to develop higher-level problem-solving skills.
