66. Buffalo Soldiers - African American Soldiers In American History
in many other military campaigns The Spanish american war, The Philippine The MexicanExpedition, World war I, World war II, and the korean Police Action.
http://www.buffalosoldiers.com/
Who are the Buffalo Soldiers?
African Americans have fought in military conflicts since colonial days. However, the Buffalo Soldiers, comprised of former slaves, freemen and Black Civil War soldiers, were the first to serve during peacetime. Once the Westward movement had begun, prominent among those blazing treacherous trails of the Wild West were the Buffalo Soldiers of the U.S. Army. These African Americans were charged with and responsible for escorting settlers, cattle herds, and railroad crews. The 9th and 10th Cavalry Regiments also conducted campaigns against American Indian tribes on a western frontier that extended from Montana in the Northwest to Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona in the Southwest. Throughout the era of the Indian Wars, approximately twenty percent of the U.S. Cavalry troopers were Black, and they fought over 177 engagements. The combat prowess, bravery, tenaciousness, and looks on the battlefield, inspired the Indians to call them "Buffalo Soldiers." Many Indians believe the name symbolized the Native American's respect for the Buffalo Soldiers' bravery and valor. Buffalo Soldiers, down through the years, have worn the name with pride.

US Geschichte Deutsch On April 25, 1945, representatives of 50 nations met in San Francisco to erect the framework of the United Nations. The U.S. Senate promptly ratified the U.N. Charter by an 89 to 2 vote. This action confirmed the end of the spirit of isolationism as a dominating element in American foreign policy. The Cold War was the most important political issue of the early postwar period. It grew out of longstanding disagreements between the Soviet Union and the United States. During World War II, the two countries found themselves allied, but at the war's end, antagonisms surfaced again. Germany became a divided country, with a western zone under joint British, French, and American occupation and an eastern zone under Soviet occupation. In the spring of 1948, the Soviets sealed off West Berlin. The western powers responded with a massive airlift of food and fuel until the Soviets lifted the blockade in May 1949. Containment of the Soviet Union became American policy in the postwar years and was the focus of the Truman Doctrine. Containment also called for extensive economic aid to assist the recovery of war-torn Europe. This program was known as the "Marshall Plan." In April 1949, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) was formed. Arms control

— Lee Atwood On VJ day, there were orders in the North American books for 8,000 airplanes. A few months later there were orders for only 24 airplanes. The Dallas and Kansas City plants were closed, and the company began to study conversion to civilian hardware. North American entered the unfamiliar habitat of commercial aircraft with the Navion, which cost $10,000 to build, but sold for $7,000. It lost $8 million before the project was sold to Ryan Aeronautical Company in 1947. At the same time, the company designed the AJ Savage bomber , a high-speed, carrier-based atomic bomber that first flew in the summer of 1948. Built for the U.S. Navy, the Savage was the largest airplane at the time operating aboard aircraft carriers. It was clear that the piston engine was losing ground to the emerging jet technology. Kindelberger visualized the potential of the jet engine, combined with North American’s airframe, and knew the company’s future lay in the new technologies. North American’s

From the French and Indian War to Vietnam, Americans have fought and died for their country. The National Park Service preserves and protects the historic battlefields of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and memorials to the more recent conflicts of World War II and the Korean and Vietnam Wars. The preservation and marking of American battlefields represents one of the most important activities of the National Park Service today. American Battlefield Protection Program
The ABPP helps communities near historic battlefields to develop local solutions for balanced preservation approaches for these sites. In addition to awarding small matching funds to organizations sponsoring planning and educational projects at historic battlefields, ABPP historians, preservation planners, and archeologists provide technical assistance to owners of battlefield property, battlefield friends groups, and state and local governments interested in preserving historic battlefield land and sites.

80. The Korean War - The Forgotten War
Lengthy article describing the war from an american perspective, with images and some useful links.
http://www.koreanwar.com
The Korean War was one of the most destructive of the 20th century. Perhaps as many as 4 million Koreans died throughout the peninsula, two-thirds of them civilians. (This compares, for example, with the 2.3 million Japanese who died in World War II.) China lost up to 1 million soldiers, and the United States suffered 36,934 dead and 103,284 wounded. Other UN nations suffered 3,322 dead and 11,949 wounded. Economic and social damage to the Korea Peninsula was incalculable, especially in the North, where three years of bombing left hardly a modern building standing. Decades later, Koreans still seek reconciliation and eventual reunification of their torn nation. Truman initiating Korean involvement.

EVENTS OF THE KOREAN WAR
From the day when North Koreans attacked South Korea on June 25, 1950 to the day of the armistice on July 27, 1953, the events of the Korean War revealed the mass destruction, pain, and suffering Koreans had to endure. At the end of the war, more than 3 million Koreans died while millions of refugees remained homeless and distraught. About 1 million Chinese died in this battle and American casualties numbered 54,246 people. This section will explore and follow the events, strategies, and atrocities of the Korean war.
