TABLE OF CONTENTS
Ecofeminist Literary Criticism
Theory, Interpretation, Pedagogy
Edited by Greta Gaard and Patrick D. Murphy Ecofeminist Literary Criticism is the first collection of its kind: a diverse anthology that explores both how ecofeminism can enrich literary criticism and how literary criticism can contribute to ecofeminist theory and activism. Ecofeminism is a practical movement for social change that discerns interconnections among all forms of oppression: the exploitation of nature, the oppression of women, class exploitation, racism, colonialism. Against binary divisions such as self/other, culture/nature, man/woman, humans/animals, and white/non-white, ecofeminist theory asserts that human identity is shaped by more fluid relationships and by an acknowledgment of both connection and difference. Once considered the province of philosophy and women's studies, ecofeminism in recent years has been incorporated into a broader spectrum of academic discourse. Ecofeminist Literary Criticism assembles some of the most insightful advocates of this perspective to illuminate ecofeminism as a valuable component of literary criticism.

The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven Background Internet Bibliographical Theorists As a religion grounded in a book, the Bible, Christianity faced a crisis in response to the Enlightenment: how might texts from that book be interpreted? Following upon the analyses of Friedrich Schleiermacher (1768-1834) who held that readers must understand the socio-cultural mindset of the writers of any textual communication, Christian theologians and philosophers attempted to devise ways of understanding the Bible, and, indeed, the whole corpus of its theological writings composed centuries and millenia ago. This field is generally called hermeneutics (intepretation) and has contributed in profound ways to the development of secular literary criticism of the past century. Contemporary theories of narrative in psychology have borrowed many concepts from both modern hermeneutics and literary criticism; this has led some commentators to label this direction within the discipline generally as "interpretive psychology."

Editorial Theory and Literary Criticism
George Bornstein, Series Editor
Editorial theory has always been an important aspect of literary study. Recently, it has also become a significant part of the newer forms of literary theory and criticism, as earlier views of editing as providing final authorial intention have been reexamined and challenged. Although various individual books on the subject of editing have appeared, there has not been a series to gather together the best scholarship in the field and examine the various issues and controversies surrounding it. The Editorial Theory and Literary Criticism series has been designed to fill that need.
