Suden suhde ihmiseen

Lupus is a chronic inflammatory disease that can affect various parts of the body, especially the skin, joints, blood, and kidneys. The body's immune system normally makes proteins called antibodies to protect the body against viruses, bacteria, and other foreign materials. These foreign materials are called antigens. In an autoimmune disorder such as lupus, the immune system loses its ability to tell the difference between foreign substances (antigens) and its own cells and tissues. The immune system then makes antibodies directed againt "self." These antibodies, called "auto-antibodies," react with the "self" antigens to form immune complexes. The immune complexes build up in the tissues and can cause inflammation, injury to tissues, and pain. For most people, lupus is a mild disease affecting only a few organs. For others, it may cause serious and even life-threatening problems. More than 16,000 Americans develop lupus each year. It is estimated that 500,000 to 1.5 million Americans have been diagnosed with lupus. For information about the Lupus Foundation of NH

WHAT IS LUPUS?
Lupus is a chronic, autoimmune system disease which causes inflammation of various parts of the body, especially the skin, joints, blood and kidneys. The immune system normally protects the body against viruses, bacteria and other foreign materials. In an autoimmune system disorder like lupus, the immune system loses its ability to tell the difference between foreign substances and its own cells and tissues. The immune complexes build up in the tissues and can cause inflammation, injury to tissues, and pain. For most people lupus is a mild disease affecting only a few organs. For others, it may cause serous and even life threatening conditions. More than 16,000 Americans develop lupus each year. It is estimated that up to 2,000,000 Americans have been diagnosed with lupus. Lupus can be difficult to diagnose as the symptoms come and go and mimic other illnesses. The symptoms include transient joint and muscle pain, a rash caused by or worsened by sunlight, sores in the nose and mouth, low grade fevers, hair loss, pleurisy, fatigue, appetite loss and/or painful sensitivity of the fingers to cold. While medical science has not yet found a cure for lupus, new research brings unexpected findings and increased hope each year.

QUICK REFERENCE QUESTION OUTLINE

THE HISTORY OF LUPUS
"Lupus" is Latin for the word "wolf," and it is common medical lore that the "butterfly rash" seen on the cheeks of many Lupus patients is so similar to the markings of a wolf. The medical name for the disease that we know of as Lupus-Lupus Erythmatosus-was first applied to a skin disorder by a Frencham, Pierre Cazenave, in 1851, though descriptive articles detailing the condition date back to Hippocrates in ancient greece

LUPUS means wolf ERYTHEMATOSUS means redness The name was coined in 1851 because the facial rash looked like the bite of the wolf . Many people call the face rash, the marlar butterfly rash. See for yourself.
Lupus, the disease, is believed to have been described by Hippocrates around 400 BC. Lupus is not a new disease but has been described more in the last 150 years. Approximately 25 years ago, lupus was considered a terminal disease. Today, lupus can be controlled with proper medical treatment. There is no cure for lupus. Lupus is a chronic, inflammatory disease in which the body's immune system, instead of serving its normal protective function, forms antibodies that attack healthy tissues and organs. For most people, lupus is a mild disease affecting only a few body organs; for others, it may cause serious and even life - threatening problems. The number of Americans diagnosed with lupus is estimated at 500,000. Lupus is more common that muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, leukemia and Addison's Disease. LE usually is divided into 3 groups: Discoid LE, Systemic LE and Drug-induced Lupus.

WHAT IS LUPUS?
So few have heard of it, yet worldwide it's seen as more common than leukaemia muscular dystrophy and multiple sclerosis. 90% of the patients who suffer from Lupus are female of childbearing age. Even young children can be affected by lupus. Lupus is a condition whereby the body's defence mechanism goes into overdrive and starts to attack itself. The symptoms are many and varied, and the illness often seems to mimic other diseases. This gives rise to difficulty in diagnosis and the condition can be overlooked, sometimes for years, unless the General Practioner or consultant is alert to the possibility of lupus. LUPUS IS NOT CONTAGIOUS Lupus can be triggered - at puberty - during the menopause - after childbirth - after viral infection - through sunlight - as a result of trauma - after a prolonged course of medication THE SYMPTOMS These may include - extreme fatigue - joint and muscle pain - eye problems - depression

EVIL ROBOTS!!!
A typical email from Gaier, regarding The Mind has No Firewall . Posted fnar.
So I read the first few paragraphs of the thing about mind-weapons or whatever. I'm not reading the rest 'cause I'm lazy and hallucinating right now (that salvia...).
Perhaps it was the title that gave me the idea, but then, baring some sort of protective anti-whatever shielding, it would make soldiers useless, correct? "It is completely clear that the state which is first to create such weapons will achieve incomparable superiority." Major I. Chernishev, Russian army; that guy. It would be superiority incomparable, (as compared to things like the jump from stone to metal, or gunpowder) but not insurmountable superiority. It seems to me the logical thing to do so humans can no longer be reasonable military weapons is...you guessed it, EVIL ROBOTS!!!
And, it would only make sense that they would have to be almost completely automated, wouldn't it? If they were controlled remotely, that would imply sensors which could be perceived by humans, so they aren't safe. So we have automated killing machines fighting our wars. At least it takes away the whole suicide-bomber advantage. So we end up with hyper-intelligent robots programmed for killing and self-preservation in the most ruthless and efficient way possible. And if military leadership can't even be trusted, it would have to be independent of command, too.
So we are looking at a country with either a completely automated military command, or at least someone no-one knows (to try and prevent "psy" attacks) hidden somewhere in a bunker giving orders to some computer which in turn sends it to the troops. In either case, we have an entire army completely loyal to one man or no-one. Enter technocratic police state.
