The most important documents are those passed out the first day of class: Course Information and Course Schedule. Macroeconomics vs. Microeconomics. The discipline of economics is divided into two broad fields: macroeconomics and microeconomics. Macroeconomics focuses on the behavior of an entire economy. Macroeconomics studies such critical topics as unemployment, inflation, national output, the central banking system, the federal budget, and economic growth. Microeconomics, on the other hand, focuses on the behavior of individual economic units, such as the individual firm, a specific industry, or consumer behavior. At Pasadena City College, macroeconomics is designated Economics 1A and microeconomics is designated Economics 1B. A student must successfully complete Economics 1A (C grade or better) before taking Economics 1B.
