Sur ces racines, celle-ci a élaboré sa spécificité artistique, constamment régénérée d'emprunts aux cultures de conquête ou de passage. L'influence européenne est ainsi évidente : l' afindrafindrao (« pas à pas ») est inspiré des menuets dansés à la cour du Roi-Soleil. Chaque ethnie a sa musique. C'est un pays qui chante, danse et s'amuse en toutes circonstances, de la naissance à la mort : le « retournement des morts » donne lieu à un déferlement de rythmes, de chants et de danses. C'est aussi par la musique et la danse, les psalmodies et litanies rythmées, que l'on entre en relation avec les esprits des ancêtres par le tromba ou rite de la possession.     INTERNATIONAL CENTER Location Antananarivo, Madagascar Offered Fall and Spring Semester GPA requirement: Housing: Students stay with families for six weeks in Antananarivo. Other accommodations include hostels, private homes, educational institutions or small hotels. Language prerequisite: 3 recent semesters of college-level French and the ability to follow coursework in French. Credit: Students usually receive 4.00 course credits while on SIT programs - 0.50 credit of Methods and Techniques of Field Study (recorded as anthropology credit), 1.00 credit of Independent Study, 1.50 credits of Seminar, and 1.00 credit of Intensive Language Study. This information may vary slightly between programs, but the overall credit for the program is generally 4.00 courses. The Africa SIT programs often times will not have an intensive language component, and in that case the Independent Study course may be 1.50 credits will the Seminar may be 2.00 credits. Classes Program Credit DPU Credit Field Study Seminar Intensive Language Study Cultural History and Geography Seminar Independent Study Project Totals Final Credit is determined from the transcript of the host institution and converted to DePauw credits.
