When acquisitions (ACQ) records display in the public catalog (PAC), patrons will be able to request uncataloged books. Because they are uncataloged, these books must be shelved by date received. A chronological queue of uncataloged books, if kept in strict order , will greatly ease the finding and processing of these books. Queue Team
Click the link to e-mail the four Cataloging Dept. staff, whose charge in FY2000 is to:
    • Address queue arrangement
    • Address queue-related workflow
    • Maintain the queue
    • Suggest priorities
We have defined the "queue" as books arranged by date received. This is the date written on slips (request forms, standing order forms, etc.) in the book by Acquisitions staff, and corresponds to the first RF date in the ACQ record. Large gift collections (e.g. Shneiderman, or NTL's backlog) do not have ACQ records for individual titles. For ease of processing, and to keep the chronological queue intact, such collections have been moved away from the queue. Contact the

InterLibrary Loan (ILL) FC Home What's New About the Library ... ILL Loan Rules (For those who have already been through this tutorial page, a streamlined version of Goucher's Interlibrary Loan options is provided as part of the library's "Services" pages.)
Is ILL the right step for you? You're probably familiar with the basics of ILL. Books and copies of journal articles are the bulk of what we are asked to get, but other media may sometimes be obtained this way as well. Jim Huff , our ILL borrowing coordinator (X6340), can advise you. (Barbara Snead (X6366) and Randy Smith (X6365) are Jim's backups for ILL transactions.) Before taking time to fill out our online form or to do a "shortcut" ILL request through WorldCat for monographs ), you'll want to do a title search on OLLI . to make sure we don't have the item here. (If we do, an interloan is not permitted.) Also for very old items checking our card catalog (in Room 101 of the library) for monographs, and our "Lapsed
Periodicals" binders in the Main Research Area, for periodicals, may save time and money. Should our catalogs indicate that we own an item and it's not checked out, yet you don't find it on the shelf yes, you can fill out an ILL request, but please note for us "Not On Shelf." We'll let you know if the material turns up here, or process the request.

The firm's work is found primarily in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, and now the state of Washington, where the firm is designing a residential compound for Microsoft magnate William Gates. Ryan Homes, Inc. Collection
    Biography/History
Ryan Homes was founded in 1947 by builder Edward M. Ryan and incorporated as Edward M. Ryan, Inc. The name was changed to Ryan Homes, Inc. in 1961, after regional expansion during the 1950s. Operations expanded to Columbus, Cleveland, Rochester, Harrisburg and other locations during the 1960s. The company was active in subdivision development and home building, and developed its own lumber yards and manufacturing plants. In 1966 it began a panelization program. In 1969 it built its first townhouses, its first inner-city projects and its first planned unit development, and began expanding into Louisville, Indianapolis, Virginia, Maryland, Georgia, North Carolina, Florida, etc. The product line was upgraded in 1976 and again in 1987 to appeal to the "move-up housebuyer" and the "upscale buyer." In 1986 Ryan Homes, Inc. was acquired by NVHomes L.P., and its name was changed to NVRyan L.P.
    Scope and Content
Blueprints, photographs and papers document selected home models and subdivisions of the 1950s and 1960s. Projects selected document the firm's early history, and are represented by architectural documentation. Papers document some corporate operations, though the records of most decision-making activity were not made available for acquisition. Brochures, flyers and and other advertising materials represent the company's promotional activities.

Module #7: Libraries and Research Tips
Do I Need to Visit a Library? The previous modules introduced you to research that can be done from any computer with Internet access. However, much of the information and materials you will need to write a research paper or project can only be found in a library. There are many valuable reference tools, books, and journals that are not available online. Types of Libraries Various types of libraries can be used to obtain information to support your course requirements. Each type of library serves a particular audience and houses different types of information resources.
    • Academic libraries usually provide research-level resources that support the curriculum of a particular college or university. Most academic libraries allow the public to use library materials in-house, but limit borrowing privileges to their students, faculty, and staff. If you are located near an academic institution, you may want to inquire about services that may be available to you. Public libraries can provide basic information and resources to get you started on your research. As a resident of the county or surrounding area, you can obtain a library card to borrow books. Remember that public libraries resources are limited and more general in nature than offerings at academic libraries.
