5. State Education Accountability Systems: Introduction
of information among state education agencies and others about specific state educationaccountability systems School Officers One massachusetts Avenue, NW
http://www.ccsso.org/introprofile.html
STATE EDUCATION ACCOUNTABILITY SYSTEMS
Historical Profiles
More recent accountability profiles are available from the Consortium for Policy Research in Education Introduction Alabama Maryland ... North Carolina Introduction The Resource Center on Educational Equity of the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO), in collaboration with the New England Comprehensive Assistance Center, has developed profiles of state education accountability systems. They are comprised of information about
  • statewide content and student performance standards statewide student assessments criteria to determine whether schools and school districts are in need of improvement or eligible to receive rewards how school and district performance is publicized the provision of rewards to schools and school districts actions at the local level to assist schools in need of improvement achieve satisfactory status actions at the state level to assist both school districts and schools in need of improvement to achieve satisfactory status corrective actions where schools or school districts in need of improvement have not made adequate progress or failed to meet other criteria for improvement
Several states have developed accountability systems on their own initiative, as part of their state school improvement planning. However, the standards, assessments, and other actions and processes referred to above also are required under Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act as amended by the Improving America's Schools Act of 1994. As reflected in these profiles, some states have integrated implementation of these requirements with their statewide accountability systems while others have separate systems in whole or in part.

    Rally to Protect Human Services
    set for April 30
This event is a 'coming together' of major constituencies. Teachers, human service workers, Social Workers , public health and health workers, labor unions, peace and justice groups, community groups and more have organized a Rally and Lobby Day to take place on Wednesday, April 30 . The goal is to counter the Romney-Finneran insistence that massive cuts and reorganization must occur, but that our tax system must not be tampered with. Instead, the Coalition believes, ample revenues can be found. It's up the people to demand that the moneys be raised and the cuts prevented. Social workers will rally at a designated area during the 2 - 4 PM rally. It is essential for the profession of social work and the funding of human services that we be a large presence. NASW urges the participation of all social workers in this important effort. For more information, contact Richard Sherman at extension 14. And
