The Toothworm
Dental Medicin e Oral Hygiene Dental Practice and Its Regulation Dentistry in ancient Mesopotamia was part of medicine. The ancient practitioners in this part of the world appear to have been divided into surgeons, exorcising physicians and herb physicians; but not such a highly specialized system as the Egyptians had. Much of the medical and dental history has been preserved as far back as 2800 B.C. The ancient Sumerians of this region wrote with ideograms read from right to left in vertical lines. Later when clay tablets and cuneiform writing developed, Assyrian and Babylonian students translated and copied the older Sumerian writings.

Some religions, or belief systems, develop because of the influence of an individual human being; some develop in other ways. Religious leaders and religions have features in common as well as significant differences.
For this lesson, you will need: Encyclopedias (including encyclopedias of religion) and biographical reference works Use the life story of Akhenaten and the short-lived monotheistic religion that he established as the basis of a research project into other religions or belief systems that have been founded or profoundly influenced by an individual (as opposed to the many ancient religions that evolved over time and have not been attributed to one man or woman). Begin by asking volunteers to name world religions. At this point, do not include sects within Christianity or Judaism, for example, or philosophical systems such as Confucianism and the Society for Ethical Culture.

With the current interest in classical studies and their chronological history studies, many Christian homeschoolers are wondering to what degree studying the cultures of the ancient world should be included in their curricula. Concerned about the pagan worldview upon which the Greeks and Romans based their beliefs and practices, homeschoolers are torn between academic excellence and honoring God's command to have nothing to do with paganism. The very basis of American government and language is Roman, and yet Roman culture and history are steeped in pagan idolatry. Aware of the need for a biblical study of ancient history, Robin Sampson published Ancient History: Adam to Messiah , a compilation of seven Heart of Wisdom unit studies covering ancient history from a biblical perspective: Adam to Abraham, Mesopotamia, Ancient Egypt, Ancient Israel, Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, and The Messiah. Heart of Wisdom units present history from a biblical worldview based on bible narratives with corresponding global events.
Ancient History: Adam to Messiah uses the unique Heart of Wisdom approach to learning. The Heart of Wisdom approach is a thorough 4 step system of instruction that combines the Charlotte Mason approach and the 4Mat learning system developed by Dr. Bernice McCarthy. Each lesson includes a motivating introduction to the subject, fact gathering, hands-on work/creativity, and narration/review. The lessons use these 4 steps to teach to each of the 4 types of learners, ensuring that the units will be useful to children with different learning styles. The activities are an excellent blend of facts and fun, with enough choices to please homeschoolers without overwhelming them. Resources are also well explained, with specific chapters/pages to read for each activity. The author has taken great care to present a variety of activities while keeping planning time to a minimum for the busy homeschooling parent.

The PREMIER JOURNEY to The Ancient World, weaving together the Peoples of those lands and civilizations and the way they lived and - their thoughts, their hopes, their dreams, their lives.
What is the Ancient World? Greece, Rome, Egypt, Mesopotamia, Babylon, Sumer, Nubia, Persia, Byzantium, Turkey? Or is it Assyrians, Chaldeans, Hebrews, Hittites, Akkadians, Etruscans, Minoans? Is it Alexander, Plato, Virgil, Socrates, Hammurabi, Aristotle, Nefertiti, the Pharaohs, Emperors, Caesar, Cleopatra, Sargon, Akhenaton, the Black Athena, Homer? Or is it the dinosaurs, Stonehenge, hunters, slaves, women, rulers, soldiers, or the Iliad, the Aeneid, the Odyssey, the Olympics? Is it found in the ruins, temples, forums, pyramids or in the remnants of ordinary life? Explore through this Web Book and the Online College Course. Ancient Civilization did not begin in what we think of as the West. It did not start in Paris or Berlin or London or Prague or Brussels or Stockholm. It grew out of the Mediterranean breezes, the sun and desert of Northern Africa, the Persian and West Asian lands. To study Ancient Civilization is to travel - across parts of Africa, southern Europe, the Middle East, and Asia to India. It is a linking voyage, not a reducing trip. It CONNECTS peoples, ideas, patterns, developments, organizations, wars, religions, art, architecture, food and drink. It is a human endeavor about a human story.

76. Ancient History Of Plumbing In Crete
Across the Mediterranean Sea from mesopotamia, the ancient people of Crete and theirMinoan seakings were leaving their mark on the early annals of history.

The History of Plumbing - CRETE
A cross the Mediterranean Sea from Mesopotamia, the ancient people of Crete and their Minoan sea-kings were leaving their mark on the early annals of history. Between 3000-1500 B.C., their early plumbers had laid elaborate systems of sewage disposal and drainage that resemble one of today. In fact, archaeologists have discovered underground channels that remained virtually unchanged for several centuries, except for extensions to include structures built over the original ones. Some vestiges of the pipes still carry off the heavy rains. Unlike hot and dry Mesopotamia, Crete suffered from extremes of variable climate and geography. Some say those forces provided the catalyst to design systems for the inhabitants' comfort. Likewise, the sharp and jagged slopes of the country provided an early understanding into the principles of hydraulics. The Palace: It was originally surmised that the Minoan civilization had been an offshoot of the ancient civilization of Greece. When the fabled palace of King Minos at Knossos came to light, however, it proved there was a separate and earlier civilization, and King Minos was no ordinary monarch.

A quick and simple game that teaches the ancient history of the Fertile Crescent by Garry Stevens PhD Back to Current release 1.1 March 2002 Download Mesopotamia: Birth of Civilisation for free!
What the Game is About
Mesopotamia follows the rise and fall of twenty nations from the Sumerians to the Persians over two thousand years of history. It purloins freely from those wonderful classic games Civilisation History of the World , and Ancient Conquests , to which I owe a huge debt. The game is more historical than Civilisation , but less world-encompassing than History of the World (HOTW) . The basic system is that of History of the World , but with one very significant difference.
Who Might Be Interested
Mesopotamia is a very simple game. This is not really a game for hardcore gamers. That said, I think it has several things to commend it:

I have endeavored to list sites which offer primary documents or other rare and unique resource material. This list is not comprehensive, the web has grown too much for me to achieve that goal, however, many of the listed sites provide their own links to similar pages of interest. Mesopotamia, the land between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers, was the fertile river plain where civilization was born and where writing first appeared. Southern Mesopotamia was under the control of a series of kings from 3000 B.C. to the 6th century B.C. In its early history, Mesopotamia was a collection of agricultural city-states. These later gave way to centrally controlled empires which spread through conquest.
Gudea of Lagash
Dragon of Marduk
The northern Mesopotamian kingdom of Assyria, in existence by 1500 B.C., would become a great empire between the 9th and the 7th centuries B.C. The kings of this mountainous region were conquerors who led their armies on an endless succession of foreign campaigns and celebrated their success by building and decorating enormous stone palaces. Royal archives of inscribed clay tablets have left us a vast encyclopedia of Mesopotamian history.
