What is metal detecting?
It is simply finding metal items such as coins, rings, badges etc. buried in the first few inches of earth. The hobby takes you away from your normal daily routine and lets you go out into the fresh air, where with the use of other advanced electronic wizardry, (the metal detector) you can have gentle exercise, enjoy nature and see what your ancestors left behind for you to find. Once at home you can share the information about your finds with others at the coffee shop, at work, at club meetings or on the Internet and learn from fellow enthusiasts about their most recent discoveries.

Our Hobby of Metal Detecting
We started metal detecting hobby with a Spectrum XLT. It took us quite a while to make our choice. On January 31, 1999 we went to a local dealer and bought a "SPECTRUM-XLT".
At this time it was considered one of the best machines on the market, and simple enough for a beginner to use. We found out later that the XLT has been on the market since 1995. So it has withstood the test of time.

Last summer we met this lady at a beach while we were detecting. She asked us to come and find her wedding ring that she lost while playing ball with her grandkids in the backyard.
It has been lost for two years. We went that day but a huge thunderstorm rolled in and we couldn't detect long so we didn't find it.

The Bronze Age Roman Coin Illustrations. Hits since February 15th 2003. Welcome to my web site Obverse and reverse of a Trajan Denarii minted in Rome 112 a.d. I have been metal detecting now for over 20 years and have recovered many artifacts and coins that I would like you to see. A lot has been said by academics regarding their heritage and that we detectorists are robbing the country of their heritage. I would like to add that what we recover is our heritage as well and not a single individuals. There are still a few out there that don't agree with our methods of recovery but suffice it to say that we, as responsible citizens, have done more to enhance our knowledge of our heritage and that has not cost the country one pennies worth. All expenses have come from our personal contributions to this hobby. Please browse through these pages, for I am sure you will agree that it would be well worthwhile.

  • Welcome, I am up to over 100 forums for metal detecting listed on my site, the more I find the more amazed I am that there are so many dedicated to this hobby. I have also recently added the URL for the GNIS, at this site you just put in your state and county and what you are looking for. Entering things like, historical post office, battlefield, wells, springs. stage coach stop, etc. allows someone to find places in thier area for research or hunting. The search is based on millions of entries in The Geographic Names Information System. One great thing is that the print out of all the sites give the GPS location. There is also a link to the USGS mapping database, this URL will allow you to print a map of the above places by entering the name, county and state. See my Tips page for more information and the links. I hope all find that this web site is of some use to them. To be sure, there are numerous other
