Minnesota Area Agencies on Aging help seniors and their communities
Area Agencies on Aging are designated by the Minnesota Board on Aging to plan for and administer programs and services for seniors. Each year, over 100,000 older Minnesotans benefit from programs and services provided by the aging network, including: Social Support Services such as transportation, health screenings, legal services, adult day care, home health aides, housing assistance, counseling, advocacy, homemaker services, chore services, and senior centers. Nutrition Programs such as home-delivered meals and senior dining Minnesota's nutrition programs provide more than 5 million meals a year. Minnesota's 497 senior dining sites, located in senior centers, community centers, schools and churches, offer nutritious midday meals along with social and rehabilitative opportunities. Older people unable to attend the senior dining sites may have meals delivered to their homes. Caregiver Services include a wide variety of services that "wrap-around" the caregiver, addressing his/her individual needs. Services are designed to improve a caregiver’s competence and confidence, and extend the time the care is provided. Examples of services include: information, peer counseling, coaching, in-home and out of-home respite, training and education, support groups, counseling, home adaptations, assistive technology, home safety management, companion, friendly visitor, chore, homemaking, and telephone reassurance. These services are available from a variety of entry and referral points across the health and community service systems network. Services that provide direct care (e.g., home care, adult day services, etc.) to the family member are also included.

Bali, Indonesia, September 1995 Medical practitioners and their professional associations have an ethical duty and professional responsibility to act in the best interests of their patients at all times and to integrate this responsibility with a broader concern for and involvement in promoting and assuring the health of the public. The traditional roles of public health agencies at all levels of government, and of independent physicians' associations involved in the field of public health, include a variety of programs and activities targeted to the identified needs of the population and the capacity to carry out those functions effectively. The key functions of public health agencies are assessing community health needs and marshalling the resources for responding to them, developing health policy in response to specific community and national health needs, and assuring that conditions contributing to good health, including high-quality medical services, safe water supplies, good nutrition, unpolluted atmospheres and environments that offer opportunities for exercize and recreation are available to the individuals. The specific programs and activities carried out in each jurisdiction will depend on the problems and needs identified, the organization of the health care delivery system, and the resources available to address the identified needs. Types of specific activities carried out under these broad public health functions include:
