US State Government Aid The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is used to apply for most state loan, grant and scholarship programs, in addition to the federal loans and grants. When you submit the FAFSA to the US Department of Education, they forward the information on the form to the state student assistance agency. Each state has a different FAFSA submission deadline. If you submit your FAFSA by March 1, you will be in time for all state deadlines, other than Michigan. If you miss the deadline, you will be ineligible to receive state aid for the entire academic year. Procedures for applying for state prepaid tuition programs and the national guard differ from state to state. The amount of information provided on the state web sites varies from state to states. Some states provide comprehensive information about residency requirements, loan, grant, scholarship and prepaid tuition programs and other state aid programs. Others provide minimal information. We recommend visiting the sites for both your state of residence and for the states of the colleges to which you are applying. A B C D ...

Teachers are required to renew their teaching licenses in many states. Graduate credits earned through a variety of courses and workshops transfer into most states and universities. (Check with your advisor or administrator as needed.)
To provide field experiences and staff development activities, SOE provides graduate credit for approved AEA courses. Classes are recommended by teachers, administrators and Drake's Field Consultants and submitted for approval by SOE's Teacher Education and Curriculum Studies department. Well over 400 courses are offered each year for teachers who wish to enroll in a wide variety of continuing education opportunities. Iowa has 15 Area Education Agencies (AEAs). The function of the AEA is to serve as intermediate units between the Department of Education, school districts, and local Schools. Each AEA offers media services, special education services, and general educational services. (Please note that there is no longer an AEA 8. It was consolidated with AEA 1.) These agencies provide special education, staff development and media services. Many have partnered with Drake to offer graduate credit for their staff development offerings.

web: www.mhec.state.md.us The Southern Regional Education Board is the nation's oldest interstate compact for higher education. The Board plans for the use of educational programs and facilities by its member states that enable them to multiple the benefits of cooperative efforts, while dividing costs. The Board operates under the Southern Regional Education Compact of 1949, which Maryland ratified in 1949 (Chapter 282, Acts of 1949). Fifteen other states have ratified the Compact. Created at the request of southern political and education leaders, the Board brings together educators, government officials, and other regional leaders to advance education and thereby improve the social and economic life of the South. Working directly with state governments, academic institutions, and other agencies, the Board conducts research and reports on needs, problems, and developments in education; coordinates cooperative programs to upgrade training in undergraduate, graduate, professional and technical education; and administers interstate arrangements for regional educational services and institutions. These reciprocal agreements provide quality education without developing expensive specialized programs in each state.

Article: State lawmakers launched a sweeping initiative Thursday to link higher education institutions to economic development projects over 20 years, but they could not say how much it would cost or how it would be funded. The plan, spanning from 2005 to 2025, involves using the state's universities and community colleges to recruit better professionals, improve academics and research, and strengthen work force and vocational training. Lawmakers presented the plan at the Capitol before about 40 representatives from universities, community colleges and state agencies. "A simple plan that, in a most demonstrative way, links higher education to our developing agencies to the future of Mississippi's economy. That's what we're here for," House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Billy McCoy told the group.

... [Related Links] The Vermillion River Watch Program began in the winter of 1998 when the Dakota County Environmental Education Program received a grant from the Mississippi Headwaters Board and the Blandin Foundation to establish a River Watch Program in Dakota County. The Vermillion River was chosen because the watershed covers about one-third of Dakota County, including twenty-one local units of government and five school districts. An effective River Watch Program would provide information and opportunities for stewardship to a significant number of Dakota County residents of all ages In the fall of 1997, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources developed the Metro Trout Stream Watershed Protection Initiative (watershed initiative). Two watershed coordinators were hired to work with local units of government, other state and federal agencies, and citizens to help them develop strategies for protecting watershed supporting trout streams in the seven county metro area while still accommodating population growth within the region. Grants from the Metropolitan Council and the Rivers Council of Minnesota were given to the Watershed Initiative to work with schools and citizens groups in the watersheds to develop a macro-invertebrate monitoring program. As part of the monitoring program, an education and outreach component was incorporated. Participating schools and citizen groups have to develop an education/outreach project for their watershed. This web site is the result of the education project of the schools monitoring the Vermillion River.

The goal of the initiative is to build the capacity of ASTDHPPHE and state health agencies to support CSHP in school settings to reduce these priority risk behaviors and promote healthy behaviors among youth. The ASTDHPPHE School Health Workgroup was formed in 2000 to lead the initiative.
