General Agriculture Building on a variety of programs offered throughout our College, general agriculture students tailor programs to fit their individual interests. Through coursework in different areas of concentration, general agriculture students develop programs with the flexibility to cover a variety of areas. You will select a primary concentration area from programs offered throughout the College. Secondary concentration areas broaden students' horizons, enabling them to be proficient in many different areas. The flexibility provided by the general agriculture program allows students transferring from other colleges and universities to complete the educational requirements and acquire their degree in a efficient manner. Real-life experience
The experience gained through coursework and internships proves invaluable. General agriculture internships in production agriculture, agribusiness and commodity organizations enable students to enhance their communication, problem-solving and technical abilities. Students are encouraged to participate in internship experiences and a capstone course of study in their major area.

USA What's new @ CAFNR ... Agricultural Education Combining an interest in agriculture and an enjoyment of working with people, Agricultural Education students help mold tomorrow's students and lead agricultural industries. Agricultural Education majors choose between two options of study. The teaching option prepares students to teach agriculture in Missouri's public schools. The employment outlook is excellent for Agricultural Education graduates. Public schools in Missouri and several other states are experiencing a shortage of high school agriculture teachers and FFA advisors. The leadership and communication option provides students with a diverse knowledge of agriculture and a strong background in communications and human relation skills. Students in the leadership and communication option have the opportunity to create a specialized course of study in an agricultural field.

UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI-ROLLA THE NAME. THE DEGREE. THE DIFFERENCE. Status Report of 42-Semester Hour General Education Transfer Policy
University of Missouri-Rolla
November 5, 2001
UMRolla has undergone major changes in higher administrative personnel on campus in the past year, with the most changes occurring just within the last few months. Furthermore, there have been several significant modifications in the administrative and organizational structure of the campus, including restructuring under the new Office of the Provost and the establishment of a new School of Management and Information Technology. As a result, the campus has not yet officially dealt with the implementation of the 42-semester-hour general education transfer policy of the Coordinating Board for Higher Education.
The review and recommendation process by the committee is expected be completed by early in winter semester 2002. Recommendations for any changes in degree requirements will then be presented to the Academic Council for final deliberation and vote. Appropriate changes in administrative procedures and policies can also be implemented at that time. UMR hopes to have the general education reporting matrix set and posted by May 2002 so that it can be in place for Fall 2002.

  • Write and speak clearly and effectively through exposure to intensive writing and speech courses. This course set will also assist the student in gaining a greater understanding and enjoyment of aesthetic and creative experiences. Locate, organize, evaluate, and synthesize information. Understand and appreciate ethical choices by reinforcing value concepts and a strong awareness of other cultures and times. Understand common phenomena in the physical and natural environment and understand the methods by which they are studied though reinforcement of high order thinking.
Courses meeting the above goals will concentrate on the development of basic learning skills such as communicating, higher order thinking, managing information and valuing. Other courses in the general education curriculum meet the remaining goals of knowledge acquisition in the areas of social and behavioral sciences, humanities, mathematics, and the physical sciences. In general, students earning a non-engineering baccalaureate degree may select from the following general education courses. There are a number of exceptions based on the bachelors degree the student wants to complete. All students should work closely with their assigned advisor and check the UMR catalog for course requirements in their specific degree.

Advisement
Freshman and sophomore students are enrolled in the School of Health Related Professions for academic advisement in order to complete general education and prerequisite courses. Students are advised by faculty and staff of the program in which they have declared a major. Undecided students are advised by the Associate Director for Student Affairs. Students should stay in close contact with their respective program faculty to be certain they are progressing satisfactorily toward completion of the prerequisites. Advisors will assist students in determining the proper time to make formal application to their respective programs.
Admission and Selection
While completing prerequisite courses, students must make formal application for admission to the professional component of the program of their choice. Enrollment in the professional component of each program in the School of Health Related Professions is limited. Students who begin their higher education at MU, as well as those who transfer to the university, must successfully compete for admission to the professional phase of the programs. Most programs in the School of Health Related Professions have a minimum GPA requirement to apply for admission. Please contact each program for specific information about GPA's and for courses allowed S/U and by correspondence study.
Due to the press of qualified Missouri residents, applications for nonresident students are not considered by the Physical Therapy Program.

Attorney General John Ashcroft
Calling him "a man of great integrity, a man of great judgment and a man who knows the law," President George W. Bush announced his decision to nominate John Ashcroft to serve as Attorney General of the United States on December 22, 2000. Upon confirmation by the Senate, Ashcroft pledged to renew the war on drugs, reduce the incidence of gun violence and combat discrimination so no American feels outside the protection of the law.
Ashcroft was born in Chicago, Illinois, on May 9, 1942. He was raised in Springfield, Missouri, where he attended public schools until enrolling at Yale University, where he graduated with honors in 1964. He received his J.D. from the University of Chicago in 1967. He began his career of public service in 1973 as Missouri Auditor and was later elected to two terms as the state's Attorney General. His ability to work with leaders of both political parties prompted his colleagues in the non-partisan National Association of Attorneys General to choose him as Chairman.
Ashcroft was elected Governor of Missouri in 1984 and held that post until 1993. During his tenure, he balanced eight consecutive budgets and served as Chairman of the Education Commission of the States.
