Library catalogs: WebCat LANCE MOBIUS WebCat is used to find books, videos, CDs (music and audio), newspapers/magazines/journals that are housed here in Pickler Memorial Library. WebCat is also part of a “cluster” of six academic libraries (almost all in Northeast Missouri), of which we are the largest. This cluster is called LANCE (Libraries and Networks Cooperating in Education) There are a number of these clusters of academic libraries throughout the state of Missouri and this Library Consortium is called MOBIUS (Missouri Online Bibliographic Information User System)
Q. Why is it helpful to know that Truman's WebCat is part of LANCE and MOBIUS? A. You may need a book that our library does not have. While in WebCat you can simply click "Search MOBIUS" to see if another library has it. Then, with a few more clicks, you can request the item and it will be delivered to our Circulation Desk, usually within 3 days (this is quicker than traditional interlibrary loan). You will be notified by e-mail once it is here. Simply return it to Circulation as you would a Pickler book.

Introduction
Newspapers are used by both genealogists and historians and are an important source of local information from specific time periods. From articles on major events, to advertisements, to notices of births, marriages and deaths, local newspapers give a picture of life often unavailable from other sources.
The Bizelli-Fleming Local History Collection contains microfilm of all available St. Charles County newspapers. Included in the collection is an early paper for the years 1820-21 and two German language newspapers from the mid 1800's. An index is available for the St. Charles newspapers beginning in 1988. St. Louis newspaper microfilm begins with January 1975 and a searchable database is available for 1990 forward. Following is a complete list of microfilmed newspapers in the collection. "T e l l T r u t h W i t h a C a m e r a . . . " This was the maxim of Clifton Edom, founder of the Photojournalism Sequence in the 1940s. He challenged aspiring photographers to document the world around them as honestly as possible. Ever since, the school has prepared dedicated professionals in photojournalism and picture editing, and continues to help chart the course for the future. O u r H e r i t a g e We are bombarded by information and now, more than ever, the world receives information visually. So, while new technologies challenge working photojournalists, the tenets of journalism remain central to profession and our teaching mission. Students gain valuable historical perspective - from the contributions of Mathew Brady and his Civil War battlefield photography, to the influential photo essays of LIFE magazine, to the stunning pictures of National Geographic, to the current state of American newspaper photojournalism. At MU we are blessed with professional programs started more than 50 years ago by Cliff and Vi Edom, that bring the world to our door. Pictures of the Year is judged here every year for about three weeks, bringing with it some of the world's best pictures. The College Photographer of the Year Competiton provides a forum for student work to be recognized and encouraged. The Missouri Photo workshop is an in. Each of these programs brings some of the world's best photographers, picture editors and educators here as judges or faculty members. And, we have strongly-motivated graduate and undergraduate students in our program who create a community of support and challenge.

OLIVE SOFTWARE, INC. ANNOUNCES THE ADDITION OF 51 CURRENT AND ARCHIVED US TITLES, MARKING A NEW ELECTRONIC PUBLISHING TECHNOLOGY TREND. DENVER, CO - Olive Software, Inc., the global leader in e-publishing technologies for the newspaper, publishing and library markets, announced today that 6 leading publishing companies and another major university have chosen Olive Software's technology to deliver current and archived editions online. The new additions include newspaper, magazine and catalogue publishers. Olive's ActivePaper software suite allows publishers to offer current and archived publications, as they appeared in print in online and offline formats, through its ActivePaper software. "Online versions of newspaper and magazine titles published with the Olive platform are currently available to over 800,000 print readers around the country. Including scheduled summer launches, over 2.8 million Americans will have the opportunity to access their favorite daily and weekly publications online or offline as they appeared in print, an exciting new trend," said Shaun Dail, Olive executive vice president. "Progressive publishers are coming to the realization that leveraging existing workflows and creating a common, multi-purpose data repository is very efficient and provides a quick ROI." Olive's ActivePaper suite is a comprehensive e-publishing platform providing an integrated solution for archiving, advertising, multi-channel publishing, ad delivery, electronic tearsheet delivery and e-commerce. ActivePaper is the first system that combines current content, legacy digital content, microfilm and paper-based content into a single XML repository. The advantage to the publisher lies in the ability to leverage an existing workflow and common data repository to meet a number of online and internal challenges.
