Connecticut:
Connecticut's State Board of Education adopted a state policy on School, Family, Community Partnerships on August 7, 1997 based on the National PTA's National Standards for Parent/Family Involvement Programs. Connecticut's General Assembly passed a law in 1997 (Public Act 97-290) which was intended to foster meaningful partnerships among schools, families, and communities to enhance student learning. It stated that ALL local and regional boards of education were required to develop, adopt, and implement written policies and procedures to encourage parent-teacher communication by September 1, 1998. The Connecticut Department of Education along with community partners including the Connecticut PTA, put together a packet to help local boards of ed comply with the law. The packet contained a sample policy, the six standards in detail, an overview of the law, and procedures and agreements that had been developed in school districts around the country, as models for communities to use. This policy and law impact 1,068 public schools including 645 elementary, 163 junior HS/middle schools, 163 high schools, and 17 vocational/technical schools, serving 545,619 public school students.

HB 302: statewide k-12 health plan
Why we need it, how it works At last year's Representative Assembly, MEA-MFT members directed the organization to work on a statewide health insurance plan for k-12 school employees. Now, with 73 co-sponsors and the support of the governor, MEA-MFT's statewide school employee health care pool bill, HB 302, has become one of the hottest items in the 2003 legislature.
"HB 302 is the most progressive and necessary piece of k-12 legislation to be considered by any legislature in a very long time," said MEA-MFT President Eric Feaver in an e-mail to Governor Judy Martz thanking her for her specific support of HB 302 in her State of the State Address.
The 2002 MEA-MFT Representative Assembly adopted a new business item that declared: "MEA-MFT shall plan and coordinate a statewide legislative effort to create a properly funded statewide health care insurance plan for public school employees."
"The 2002 RA got it right," said Feaver. "School employees everywhere are suffering mightily from the failure of our current, dysfunctional health care insurance delivery systems."

The Montana State Historical Records Advisory Board (SHRAB) is one of more than fifty similar boards active in all the states, territories, and the District of Columbia. State historical records boards were established in 1975 by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission , the grant-awarding arm of the National Archives. The Montana SHRAB was organized in September 1976 with an Executive Order issued by Governor Tom Judge. The Governor of Montana continues to appoint the eight members of the Montana Board to two-year terms. By federal regulation, board members must have experience or interest in the collection, administration, and use of historical records and are dedicated to the preservation and use of Montana’s documentary heritage. The State Archivist is a permanent member and serves as the state coordinator for the board.

Program Coordinator: Sharon Kott sak@montana.edu Community Health Services Development The purpose of the Montana Community Health Services Development (CHSD) Program is to improve the access to health care and the quality of health care in Montana's rural communities. Since its inception in 1987, the Montana CHSD Program has assisted over 30 Montana communities. Although traditionally focusing on the health care provided by rural hospitals, the Program is expanding its activities to assist with broader community health care concerns, consistent with the "Health Communities" concept. To be successful, any program to improve local health care must be a "grass-roots" effort, arising from the concerns of the local community and not imposed by an outside organization. As a result, the Montana CHSD Program only provides assistance; the initiation of the local project, and the continuing interest, energy and hard work must come from the community. The local rural hospital is often the focal point for initiation of the Montana CHSD Program, but a more community-based approach may be appropriate. Each community has different needs and no single format or mix of services is universally effective. Indeed, a community may need only one specific service at a particular time. Therefore, the services delivered through the Montana CHSD Program are flexible and designed to fit the needs identified by the community in consultation with the Montana CHSD Program.
