    Homeschooled Troops in Iraq
Our nation is in the midst of an intense and fierce conflict in Iraq. Our soldiers are sacrificing their very lives and some of these soldiers are your very own homeschooled graduates. Over the last few years, since we succeeded in passing a law in Congress to open up military enlistment to homeschoolers, many of your homeschoolers have joined the military service. It is encouraging, after 20 years of working for the right of parents to educate their children as they see fit, to observe that the homeschooling movement is "growing up" and we now see homeschool graduates entering into service for our country. We would like to create a list of these graduates who are involved in the Iraqi conflict. The purpose is to hold these homeschoolers up before the throne of God to pray that He will protect and strengthen them throughout the conflict. If you have a graduate presently involved in this conflict, we invite you to add their name to this list so that we might pray for these troops.

... ARCHIVED CURRENT EVENTS President's Message By Kathy Phelan,
      IEA President
2003 promises to be filled with daunting challenges for Idaho students, public education and the IEA. Last spring we stood together on the capital steps to protest unprecedented education funding cuts. Then we mobilized to elect politicians who are public education advocates. While we were successful in many races, the state leadership and the legislature still appear to be dominated by politicians more interested in cutting taxes and cutting budgets than in investing in our infrastructure or the future of Idaho¹s children.
This year more than ever we need to stand together for Idaho's children and public education. The new federal elementary and secondary education law, euphemistically titled the "No Child Left Behind Act", will place more demands than ever on you, your students and your colleagues. And the current Idaho Assessment and Accountability proposal will require us to stand together to advocate for meaningful accountability-the kind that enables every student and educator to grow and succeed.

Since VC is so rare in Montana, I thought you might be interested in the following VentureWire Alert posted yesterday. Note that Emerald BioAg, although headquartered in Michigan, was formed by the merger of Mycotech with Auxein. Mycotech has been in Butte for a while, and has won 4 SBIR awards since 1992, including Phase I and Phase II awards from the Navy, and two USDA Phase I SBIR awards. (Many thanks to Ray Friesenhahn for passing this excellent news along.- Russ) The SBIR program is one of the best ways for small and start-up companies to obtain non-equity/non-debt financing for new technology development, and statistics show that companies that have won SBIR awards are five times more likely to be able to obtain Venture Capital. LANSING, MICH. Emerald BioAgriculture, a developer of biological and biochemical agents, announced that it has secured $6.2 million in Series B financing. http://www.emeraldbio.com/press_release/burrill_pappas.html
