The Nebraska Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) Network consists of a partnership between the Nebraska Department of Education, Office of Special Populations (NDE), the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Barkley Center (UNL), and five ASD Regions. The ASD Network is supported by IDEA Part B Set Aside Funds from NDE. NDE is responsible for maintaining the statewide network. Five ASD regions have been established throughout the State, each of which has a Regional Director and Coordinator who work hand-in-hand with NDE and UNL. A statewide ASD Standing Committee has been established to provide advice and recommendations to the ASD network on delivery of appropriate services for children with ASD, training of educators, parents and the community and teaching competencies. The Standing Committee is comprised of at least three individuals from each ASD Region in the State, including at least one parent, service provider and administrator from each Region.

    Communication is constant and open; Communication centers on shared goals for the student; Parents are knowledgeable regarding IEP/transition planning process; Parents are informed of legal rights and responsibilities; and Parents are informed of community resources.
Factors Inhibiting Parent Participation Factors contributing to unsatisfactory parent/professional relationships:
    Teachers and/or adult services representatives fail to attend, or leave meetings; Team membership changes frequently; Professionals do not appear to listen to parents; and

Z A The Arc of Nebraska is a statewide association of people with developmental disabilities and their parents, other family members, interested citizens and dedicated human service professionals. Developmental disabilities include (but are not limited to) mental retardation, cerebral palsy, Down Syndrome, autism, and epilepsy. Ask Dr. Ed - A resource of the University of Nebraska. Dr. Ed Dominguez is an associate professor of Internal Medicine/Infectious Diseases at UNMC and the KETV "HealthWatch" reporter. Submit medical questions to Dr. Dominguez and he will respond to them as soon as possible. (Messages posted will not be displayed immediately.) This site also has information from previous "HealthWatch" reports. The Nebraska Assistive Technology Project links people with technology. The Partnership enables people with disabilities, their families, and professionals to learn about the latest innovations and identify funding for assistive devices and services. The Autism Society of Nebraska is a non-profit organization dedicated to the welfare of children and adults with severe disorders of communication and behavior.
