A certain conventional wisdom says that most American Jews support the war in Iraq because they believe it will make the world a safer place for Israel. But conversations with some of Chicago's Jewish leaders prove that wisdom is flawed. Church: 'New Age' is positiveif you don't go too far
February 4, 2003 BY NICOLE WINFIELD
VATICAN CITYThe Vatican weighed in Monday on feng shui, crystals and the dawning of the Age of Aquarius in a new document designed to address whether you can still be a good Christian while listening to New Age music. ''A Christian Reflection on the 'New Age,''' doesn't give many absolute answers. But while saying some positive things about the movement, it warns that New Agers' quest for spirituality can't take the place of true Christian religion. While New Agers are waiting for an era when they are ''totally in command of the cosmic laws of nature ... Christians are in a constant state of vigilance, ready for the last days when Christ will come again; their New Age began 2,000 years ago, with Christ,'' the document said. The Vatican said the preliminary document was the result of requests by bishops for guidance on determining whether practices embraced by New Agers, including yoga, meditation and healing by crystals, were compatible with Christianity. The Rev. Michael Fitzgerald, president of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue, said many aspects of New Age were viewed positively by the church.

    T The Atheist's Bible
Pious Americans were shocked by Thomas Paine's The Age of Reason , part of which was written during the great pamphleteer's imprisonment in Paris during the French Revolution. Although denounced as the "atheist's bible," Paine's work was actually an exposition of a radical kind of deism and made an attempt at critical biblical scholarship that anticipated modern efforts. Paine created a scandal by his sardonic and irreverent tone. Assertions that the virgin birth was "blasphemously obscene" and other similarly provocative observations convinced many readers that the treatise was the entering wedge in the United States of French revolutionary "infidelity."

Even before the publication of the Age of Reason , Thomas Paine was hated and feared for his political and religious radicalism by conservatives in England, where he had periodically lived since 1787. Paine fled to France in December 1792 to avoid trial for treason. In this cartoon, Paine sleeps on a straw pillow wrapped in an American flag, inscribed "Vive L' America." In his pocket is a copy of

Revelation 13: Mad Cow Disease (BSE) - A New Age / Prophecy Analysis
"The Moo heard round the world"
But the disease would never have spread if England's beef farmers had not been feeding ground up cow remains to cows to make them grow faster, which spread the disease to other cattle. This being the equivalent of cannibalism in cattle, this beef farming practice is also used elsewhere in the world. If they had fed the cattle ground-up leftover fish instead, then this never would have happened. And another terrible thing about BSE is that the infectious prion molecules that spread it are very hard to destroy by heat or chemicals, and can last years in the soil. So you can't just bury BSE infected cattle, you have to incinerate them at high temperatures. So a widespread epidemic of BSE could contaminate the environment with infectionious prions. And noone knows if other feed animals such as pigs and chicken can also spread BSE, or whether other products of cattle such as leather can spread BSE. Maybe you can get it from your leather wallet, noone knows yet.
Mad-Cow Disease infecting people's brains was announced on March 20 1996 in England as the Comet Hyakutake passed by the constellation (I mean constellation, not astrological sign) Virgo the Virgin. I think that virgo the Virgin represents Isis, the Egyptian Goddess portrayed with cow's horns, giving us a "cow" connection. And Virgo may also represent Europa, representing Europe, who rides a bull, again giving us a "cow" connection. And Europa on a bull sounds like the woman in the Bible's last chapter, the Book of Revelation, Revelation 17 named "Babylon" who rides the beast of the Antichrist described in Revelation 13 (which may be

    God is Dead:
    Secularization in the West
    Steve Bruce
Blackwell 2002 A book review by Danny Yee The "secularization paradigm" is not a simple single concept. Bruce's explanation of it in chapter one of God is Dead begins with a diagram with 22 nodes (from "The Protestant Reformation" down to "Relativism" and "Compartmentalization and privatization") connected by 26 arrows - and followed by twenty five pages of explanation. But the core idea is that there has been "a long-term decline in the power, popularity and prestige of religious beliefs and rituals", brought about by modernization, or more specifically by "individualism, diversity and egalitarianism in the context of liberal democracy". Bruce also touches on the forces that can act against secularization when religion becomes tied up with ethnicity, nationalism, or even modernization itself, and on some of the common misunderstandings about the secularization paradigm (that it predicts the spread of atheism, for example, when it actually implies only growing indifference to religion, not opposition). The remaining chapters consider different aspects of this paradigm, presenting the basic evidence for secularization, analysing the mechanisms behind it, addressing methodological issues, and appraising alternative views. Bruce's approach is sociological, drawing on the tradition running from Durkheim and Weber through to Niebuhr and Martin; and he incorporates some theory - for example an explanation of the "cult : sect :: church : denomination" typology - and enters into academic debates. But the overall result is broadly accessible, with a good balance between theory, statistics, and case studies. The chapters are also largely independent - some are based on articles published elsewhere - and could be read separately.

    New Age
An umbrella term for a wide range of personal and individual beliefs and practices influenced primarily by eastern religions, paganism, spiritism.
  • Belief in Deity: God is the impersonal life force, consciousness, ultimate truth and reality, the incorporeal, formless cosmic order personified within all people and matter - God is all and all are God.
  • Incarnations: Most believe there are no particular incarnations to worship as all in the universe are embodiments of God. Many of the world’s prophets, including Jesus, are viewed as reincarnations of the Christ.
  • Origins of universe/life: The universe, life, and matter were not created by God but “are” God. The universe and life emerged out of the creative power of the eternal universal life force.
  • After death: Some believe in continual rebirth - no death, as life is spirit. Some believe that our souls rest for a time before deciding on a new body (or bodies). Heaven and hell are states of consciousness, self-imposed, due to ignorance of God as all.
