I bought mine through Sing 'N Learn . You'll need their tape to make sense of the songs. Although I really like the A.M. tape, there were some which we found hard to learn, so we used the following alternate songs. I have skipped many of the tiny countries (e.g. San Marino, Andorra). I tried to put the countries in the order they appear on the map, as much as possible.

POL 470 The Other in Poland and Central Europe
COURSE DESCRIPTION: Central Europe has been invented in political practices and discourses that are constituted around the binary 'the West' and 'the Other.' By studying the historical development of this idea and its political determinants, we are able to contextualize and deconstruct the very process of 'constructing the other' as such. Some ethnographic characteristics will be studied in terms of how they have been used and abused in the process of (national) identity making. The social processes of stigmatization and the open or hidden concerns of such groups as ethnic and religious minorities, women, homosexuals, peasants, immigrants, workers, former state farm workers, the unemployed and the poor will be considered. The socio-economic and the ethnic modes of creating 'the Other' have important and often tragic consequences for these communities.

    http://personal.nbnet.nb.ca/wbharrig/geography.html
Harrigan Geography Where do Harrigans live at the beginning of the 21st century? With the various internet directories and information gained from various sources, we can get a rough idea of our numbers and where they occur. There are probably around 3500 Harrigan households in the world. Most of these occur in the United States, and most states are represented. Not all these Harrigans are related, but many are. There are probably around 500 households in Canada. In New Brunswick where our Harrigans arrived from County Cork, Ireland, there are probably around 30. Ireland (Eire) has probably just a few more households than New Brunswick; Harrigan is not a common surname in Ireland in modern times. In all of Great Britain there may be close to 700 households. The island of Anguilla is home to many families of Harrigans. There are more than 250 households in Australia, but that's about it for Harrigan gatherings. The Harrigan Rocks which are pictured on Joe King's book, Ireland to North America, are located in County Cork. Drop me a line if you want to know where.

    http://www.acadian-cajun.com/geogr.htm
Acadian History Acadian Genealogy Cajun History Cajun Genealogy ... Links Encyclopedia of Acadian Life: Geography BOUNDARIES The exact boundaries of Acadia were always in question. At times, it referred to the peninsula (present day Nova Scotia), but often included a larger area indicated by the map at the left. Sections of the coasts of New Brunswick and Maine were the sites of early Acadian settlements. Starting about 1720, some Acadians moved to Ile St. Jean (present day Prince Edward Island). Ile Royale (Cape Breton) was never really settled by the Acadians until after the 1750s. They thought the land wasn't good enough. To escape English pressure, many Acadians moved to New Brunswick and Ile St. Jean in the mid 1700s, though most of the population in those places was also deported. From The Annual Register, V. 1, Dec. 1758, p. 2
Now began to shoot forth the seeds of another dispute, which had long lain unobserved, but which proved altogether as thorney and intricate as that concerning the limits of Acadia. The French pretending to have first discovered the mouths of the Mississippi, claimed the whole adjacent country, towards New Mexico on the East, quite to the Apalachian or Allegeney mountains on the West. They drove off the new settlers, and built a strong fort called du Quesne, on the forks of the river Monongahela, a situation which commanded the entrance into all the country on the Ohio and Mississippi."

Research Areas: History of Cartography; History of Geography; Imperialism; La Francophonie, Napoleon Atlas
Research Interests: Described "traditionally," the research I have published on to date falls under the rubric of the history of geography. It has, however, a strong theoretical dimension. Thus, for example, my interest in the cartography produced in the course of the Napoleonic mapping of Egypt, led to a paper which explores the themes of representation, intellectual conquest, and the social construction of identity and otherness through the maps, text and sketches.
Similarly, Geography Unbound is a history of French geography 1760 to 1830. Far from a traditional history of geography, this work focuses on a make or break period in the history of geography and links it to the epistemic shift described by Foucault in his Les mots et les choses. Devoted to a relatively short period of time in a particular country, it nevertheless addresses larger questions about the structure of thought (or the archaeology of knowledge) and the complex ways in which the combined influences of ideas and personalities, formal and informal disciplinary structures, and political pressures have shaped and still shape our thought. Of course, no historical work is immediately "applicable" to the present. Arguably, however, ? and this is perhaps the central lesson to be learned from literary theory - it is through the construction and deconstruction of such stories that we derive understanding and knowledge.
