52. Conservation Council Of New Brunswick - Environmental Law Handbook
Originally published in 1983 by the Conservation Council of new brunswick, this version is revised to January 1 2001. Its 7 chapters and 12 appendices are directed at citizens, public interest groups, government, business and industry.
http://www.web.ca/~ccnb/publications/handbook/guidee.html
The New Brunswick Environmental Law Handbook Version Français The Handbook on Environmental Law for New Brunswick was originally published in 1983 by the Conservation Council of New Brunswick. Environmental law has changed a great deal over the past 17 years. This revised version of the handbook is intended to capture many of those changes and provide the people of New Brunswick with updated information on environmental issues and the laws we have in place to address them. The handbook provides an introduction and overview of environmental law, and as such is not intended to serve as a replacement for legal advice. Every attempt has been made to ensure that the material in this handbook is accurate; however, to verify the information consult the official statutes and regulations, or the responsible government department. To assist in this, the handbook includes the full citations for all of the laws addressed, as well as contact information for relevant government departments. The complexity of environmental law is directly related to the scope of the subject-matter: the environment. Recent events have focused our attention on the fragility of the environment, thinning of the Earth’s ozone layer, global warming, collapse of the North Atlantic cod stocks and groundwater contamination from leaking oil and gasoline storage tanks.

    New Brunswick NCB Programs
New Brunswick invests over $7M annually in initiatives that support the goals of the NCB. These include: Day Care Assistance Program - Increased subsidy rates and increased number of subsidies available. Alternative Child Care Program provides a day care subsidy to families who are not eligible for basic financial assistance and who do not have reasonable access to licensed child care facilities. Healthy Minds Nutritional Partnership - During the 1999-2000 school year, the New Brunswick government piloted a Healthy Minds breakfast program in two school districts as one of the province's NCB initiatives. The pilot attempted to address the nutritional needs of students from kindergarten to grade 5 in a non-stigmatizing way. More than 2,000 children had access to breakfast foods on an as-needed basis. Participating school received a per student subsidy, assuming that 20% of students would participate. In addition, schools received $500 to assist with program-related costs and further funding for equipment. The evaluation of the pilot was extremely positive. One of the key findings was that schools wanted more flexibility and autonomy in their delivery of a school nutrition program. In response, the New Brunswick government allowed districts to determine the extent of the program they offer (e.g., emergency cupboard, breakfast, snack or lunch) when it expanded the program to all areas of the province during the 2000-01 school year. Renamed the Healthy Minds Nutritional Partnership, the program will benefit up to 7,276 students across the province.

Hosted on the grounds of Old Government House
Fredericton, New Brunswick The New Brunswick Highland Games have been held on the grounds of the recently restored Government House since 1993. The following description of the building and its history is used with permission of the Province of New Brunswick's Government House website. Old Government House in a 19th century watercolour. Despite the passage of time, This historic building still looks the same today.
Old Government House and its setting represents a physical statement of the cultural heritage of the City of Fredericton, the Province of New Brunswick, and the Nation of Canada. This imposing stone structure was declared a National Historic Site in 1958 for its role in New Brunswick's colonial history and as an example of classically inspired residential architecture built in British North America. In February 1996, the Province of New Brunswick designated the building and property a protected historic site under the Historic Sites Protection Act. With its neo-classical proportions and Palladian design, Old Government House evokes the flavour of colonial politics and the influence of the British Crown in 19th century New Brunswick. As the original Vice-Regal Residence for New Brunswick's Lieutenant-Governor, the style and grandeur of Old Government House expresses the considerable influence wielded historically by this high office . Through these doors have passed the politicians and administrators, the entrepreneurs and developers, the educators and innovators who have shaped our province.
