Division of Adult Learning and Rehabilitation The Bureau of Adult Education provides grants to school districts and private not-for-profit organizations for the purposes of offering educational services to adults who have not received a high school diploma or GED certificate, or do not read, write or speak English. With funds provided by the Bureau of Adult Education, local communities provide services to adults whose skills range from very basic to high school level. Adults are eligible for enrollment in any program supported by the Bureau of Adult Education if they
  • are at least 16 years of age have not received a high school diploma or GED certificate do not speak, read or write English are not currently enrolled in school
Each New Hampshire county has an Adult Tutorial Program which provides one-on-one tutoring with trained volunteers for any student who meets the eligibility criteria. The Bureau administers the GED (General Educational Development) Testing Program. The New Hampshire GED Certificate is a high school completion credential. Testing is available at twenty local testing sites in New Hampshire.

Refer to the list below, and if you have any questions or would like to set up a telephone or in-person appointment, please contact our Advising Office at (603) 862-1548. The following are the University's current General Education rules, which are in effect for students admitted to the University degree status in September 1984 or later. Remarks before the Public Higher Education Study Committee
Concord, N.H., August 6, 2002 Good morning. I am tremendously pleased to be with you today to share with you my reflections about the University of New Hampshire and convey my hopes for the University of New Hampshire in the coming year. I am grateful for this chance to begin to get acquainted with members of the General Court. This is my first opportunity to visit the State House and the legislative office building. I am excited about the prospects for the future at UNH, and I look forward to working closely with you to advance public higher education in this wonderful state.
Nevertheless, we have some real challenges, as well as opportunities, and I would like to share some of these with you this morning.

[Art.] 83. [Encouragement of Literature, etc.; Control of Corporations, Monopolies, etc.; Exclusive Authority of General Court to Determine Content, Extent, and Funding of Public Education; State's Responsibility to Provide for Public Education; Powers; Duties; Delegation.
...The general court shall have the responsibility to provide to all citizens of the state the opportunity to receive a public education, and in furtherance thereof, it shall have the exclusive authority to determine and set forth the content , the extent, and the funding of that education. The general court shall fulfill its responsibility directly or in concert with its political subdivisions through the exercise of its power to make, ordain, and establish all manner of wholesome and reasonable orders, laws, statutes, ordinances, directions, and instructions. The general court shall provide for the funding of said education through its power to directly impose and levy assessments, rates, and taxes, or through a delegation of such power, in whole or in part, to the political subdivisions of the state, provided that the resulting assessments, rates, and taxes are fair and proportional throughout the state or political subdivision whose legislative body imposes the assessment, rate, or tax. Nothing in this article shall be construed to limit the amount the state or any political subdivision may expend on the funding of education or to deny, disparage, or infringe any other right of the people as set forth elsewhere in this constitution.
