The History and Demise of CNME
In December 1998, the NAC voted 11 to 4 to deny CNME its accreditation status. At this point CNME had an opportunity to appeal the NAC decision against them to the Secretary of Education Richard Riley. From December 1998 to January 2001, USDE examined all facts and concluded that CNME was treated fairly but did not follow its own printed standards, and failed to meet Integrity issues. The following, dated January 16, 2001, is a reproduction of the Secretary of Education Report , denying once and for all, CNME recognition by USDE. CNME Bites The Dust!
An eighteen (18) page report by a staff analyst for the United States Department of Education (USDE) examining the credibility and integrity of the Council on Naturopathic Medical Education (CNME). The report written for the National Advisory Committee on Institutional Quality and Integrity recommends that CNME be denied their status as an accreditor of naturopathic programs. Update on CNME Caution Naturopathic Medical Education
Lets examine the misguided rhetoric written about accredited four year resident Naturopathic Medical schools teaching surgery, drugs and pretending to produce primary care physicians. Naturopaths In Denial
When ANMA posted the page entitled CNME referring to Caution Naturopathic Medical Education members of AANP responded with their usual denials. Some individuals have asked us to respond and we do so in the following manner.

Affordable broadband telecommunications networks are important to achieving the next generation of information technology and to making the benefits of technological progress available to all citizens. Given the changing nature of the telecommunications marketplace, and the specific characteristics of the market for broadband telecommunications services, the appropriate public policies require less intrusive government regulation and lower tax rates on telecommunications services.

State Summary: NEW HAMPSHIRE
Sources: New Hampshire Revised Statutes Annotated 1955, 1989 Replacement Edition, Title XVIII, Chapters 206 through 214; 1992 Cumulative Supplement. STATE WILDLIFE POLICY The Legislature finds: species of wildlife normally occurring within this state found to be in jeopardy should be accorded protection necessary to maintain and enhance their numbers; the state should assist in the protection of species of wildlife determined to be threatened or endangered elsewhere pursuant to the Endangered Species Act by prohibiting the taking, possession, transportation or sale of endangered species and by carefully regulating such activities with regard to threatened species. Exceptions for the purpose of enhancing the conservation of such species may be permitted as set forth in this chapter (212-A:3). The Legislature finds that New Hampshire's wildlife resources include more than 300 vertebrate species which normally breed in the state, and 120 bird species which occur as transients, migrants, or wintering populations. Of these 420 species, about 60 are considered fur-bearers, game birds or mammals, or sport fish. Native wildlife constitutes an invaluable natural resource with ecological, scientific, educational, historical, recreational, economic and aesthetic values to state citizens. It shall be the policy of the state to maintain and manage this resource for future generations (212-B:2). (See PROTECTED SPECIES OF WILDLIFE.) The wild black bear has played a vital role in the development and history of the state and is recognized as a valuable game and wildlife resource. It is recognized that bears should be accorded such protection as is necessary to maintain and enhance their numbers (208:24). RETURN TO MTBE in NJ MAIN PAGE TABLE OF CONTENTS PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS HEALTH EFFECTS REFERENCES REGULATION AND GUIDANCE BY NJ, USEPA, AND OTHER STATES 1. Regulation by New Jersey Drinking Water Standard The New Jersey Drinking Water Quality Institute's development of a drinking water standard (Maximum Contaminant Level, MCL) for MTBE began in the mid-1980's in response to its detection in New Jersey drinking water surveys (discussed below). This was prior to MTBE's use as an oxygenate for reduction of air pollution; it was added to gasoline as an octane booster at this time. The development of an MTBE standard by New Jersey was particularly necessary because, as discussed below, no federal drinking water standard was available, and such a standard has not yet been developed by USEPA at this time. New Jersey's Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) of 70 ug/L for MTBE was promulgated in 1996, pursuant to the A-280 Amendments to the New Jersey Safe Drinking Water Act, and monitoring by all water supplies for MTBE was required at this time The Health-based Maximum Contaminant Level, which forms the basis for the standard (MCL) is based on a subchronic oral study in rats conducted by USEPA (Robinson, 1990). The endpoint of concern was increased relative kidney weight. MTBE was classified as a possible human carcinogen, and an additional uncertainty factor of 10 was incorporated to account for possible carcinogenic effects.

A guide for parents
From September 2001, the Office for Standards in Education (OFSTED) will be responsible for the regulation of providers of childcare services in addition to its current role of inspecting schools. From that date, OFSTED will register and inspect nurseries, playgroups, and pre-schools, crèches, out of school care and childminders for children up to the age of eight. It will also investigate any complaints about your service and take enforcement action if it does not meet a set of national standards and other registration requirements. Until September, your local council’s registration and inspection unit continues to be responsible for registering and inspecting childcare services. This leaflet is to let you know, in general terms, how OFSTED plans to work with you and to help make sure that you know what to expect from OFSTED. More detailed information for parents will be available in the summer.

Privatizing Education and Educational Choice
Concepts, Plans and Experiences
Simon Hakim, Paul Seidenstat, and Gary W. Bowman, eds. Eighteen experts, including Albert Shanker, Ernest L. Boyer, Thomas Kean, and John Menge, examine the issues surrounding educational choice in public school systems and the voucher system for private schools. They discuss when choice should be considered, methods of implementation, and the extent to which government should be involved. Descriptions and evaluations of choice programs that have been implemented are presented. The book includes contributions from both supporters and opponents of choice presented within an academic framework to enhance examination, debate, and analysis. Since thirty-seven states have adopted legislation that provides some kind of choice in the public education system, the issues involved will be important to school boards, educational administrators, public policy makers, parents, and taxpayers. 1994. 248 pp. Paper: $22.95, ISBN 0-275-95081-6.
