Creating bulletin boards
1. To be effective, bulletin boards should be:
  • simple attractive functional appropriate changed frequently
2. Doing this isn’t easy. Use the hundreds of commercial bulletin board books available to you. Explore the possibility of commercial materials. Use your students and their work too. 3. Little commercial advice is available on what to do with bulletin board materials when you remove them. Save yourself some time and frustration by adapting these filing guidelines to meet your needs:
  • school month files (months, periods of time like “Back to School”) alphabetical order holidays, alphabetical or chronological subjects (academic or other)
  • 4. Regardless of the file method you use, include in your system a small metal box with 3x5 index cards arranged alphabetically. Jot down bulletin board ideas for future use and don’t let a brainstorm slip by.

New Jersey EMT Association By-Laws Updated 3/14/03
The New Jersey EMT Association was created with the goal of giving a voice to the individual working the streets within our state. After all, no one knows EMS better then those of us who are knee deep in blood on a daily basis. This association is a non-profit organization working in three distinct areas in order to meet the goal set within our mission statement. Lobbying
Currently, people who have only minimal knowledge of the industry are creating the laws and regulations for EMS. In addition, after researching the systems of other states, we find that we are far behind. As an example, there are several other states where they are doing IV therapy and advanced airway management at the BLS level. Training
As a group, we must make changes in our systems to make them work better for us. It is a goal of the EMT Association to create statewide-standardized training requirements. Now, we know most of you are thinking that we already have that with the EMT program. However we ask, do we really? We would agree that each county does have at least one EMT program. After talking to a lot of people, we believe that each of these programs are different in the way they are taught. Making this situation worse, there are conflicts within the individual squads. An example is, when we allow

Press Release
BARRINGTON SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER TO LEAD STATE EDUCATION GROUP
JAMESBURG, May 20, 2000—A 13-year veteran of the Barrington Board of Education in Camden County was elected president of the New Jersey School Boards Association during the organization’s semi-annual meeting here today. Patti J. Pawling, the new president, will lead NJSBA, a non-profit federation of the state’s local boards of education, for the next two years. Pawling has served as the Association’s vice president for legislation and resolutions for the past four years. “These are exciting times in public education in New Jersey. We are implementing higher standards for our children and new training programs for teachers, and we are about to begin an unprecedented school construction program,” said Pawling. “I look forward to the opportunity to represent, and work side by side with, local board members during this time to assure our students’ success.” In addition to her service as the Association’s vice president for legislation/resolutions, Pawling has been a member of NJSBA committees that addressed legislation, association policies and special education. Pawling has earned the “Master Board Member” designation through the NJSBA Board Member Academy, an honor earned by only 72 of the state’s 4,800 local school board members. She has also volunteered as a group leader during orientation training for the state’s newly elected and appointed local school board members.

Genocide in New Jersey State Public Schools
The American Indian Movement Support Group of New Jersey is currently running a campaign to stop stereo-typing and racism in New Jersey State Public schools. Racism in public schools across the country has become acceptable when pointed towards Native Americans. Think about the schools in your area, do they condone "re-enacting" the fable of Thanksgiving? Do they dress children up in Indian Headdresses? Does the school have a mascot that is an Indian? If you answered yes to any of those questions your local school is contributing to the oppression that Native American children have to deal with. Every child needs to have a safe learning environment; one that is free from damaging blows to their self esteem. Unfortunately, they are forced to participate in mocking their sacred items, such as the Eagle Feather, they are forced to dishonor their ancestors, the ones who were massacred at the first Thanksgiving. The definition of genocide is simple. It is the deliberate and systematic destruction of a racial, political, or cultural group.

Who Determines the Rules
Legally, the ultimate authority in certification (subject, of course, to the power of the State Legislature to revise the Statutes) is the State Board of Education, which is authorized to make and enforce rules and regulations for the granting of appropriate certificates or licenses to teach or to administer, direct or supervise the teaching, instruction and educational guidance of pupils in public schools operated by boards of education. The specific detailed requirements for certificates are set by the State Board of Education within the framework of any pertinent state laws.
State Board of Examiners
The State Board of Examiners has the power to issue and to revoke certificates under the rules and regulations prescribed by the State Board of Education. It makes recommendations to the State Board of Education on both certification requirements and procedures.
The Commissioner of Education is authorized to suspend your certificate for a year without the consent of your local board of education if you fail to fulfill your teaching contract.
The State Board of Examiners can revoke your certificate for inefficiency, incapacity, conduct unbecoming a teacher, or other just cause, but only after you have had an opportunity to be heard.

http://www.ed.gov/pubs/RegPrivSchl/newjerse.html
State Regulation of Private Schools - June 2000
New Jersey
Registration/Licensing/Accreditation: New Jersey law places registration requirements on a limited category of private schools that are not operated by charitable institutions or religious denominations, i.e. for-profit nonsectarian private boarding schools established after 1920 and private schools charging tuition for certain vocational education. This limited category of schools must obtain a certificate of approval from the Commissioner of Education to legally operate within the state. N.J. Rev. Stat. 18A:69-1 et seq Recordkeeping/Reports: Length of School Year/Day: Curriculum: Special Education: et seq Health: Safety: Transportation: The New Jersey Constitution declares that the state legislature may, within reasonable limitations as to distance, provide student transportation (ages 5-18) to and from any school. New Jersey Const. Art. 8, 4, par. 3. Home Schooling: New Jersey does not have a code that addresses the area of home schooling. New Jersey’s compulsory education law states that every child between the ages of six and 16 must attend a public or private school, or receive "equivalent instruction elsewhere than at school". N.J. Rev. Stat. § 18A: 38-25. Responsibility for enforcing the compulsory education law rests with the local board of education. When a school board has reason to believe that a parent or guardian is not complying with the compulsory education law, the local board of education can initiate truancy proceedings in municipal court, requiring parents or legal guardians to document their activities in providing "equivalent instruction". N.J. Rev. Stat. §§ 18A: 38-27 through 18A: 38-31.

Doing Our Share - The School Campaign to
Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Global Learning and the New Jersey Sustainable Schools Network have undertaken this campaign to involve schools and students in positive efforts to reverse global warming.
The goal: To help New Jersey's public and private schools cut their GHG emissions by at least 3.5% below their 1990 levels by 2005.
Global warming is a problem that affects New Jersey, particularly regarding sea level rise. The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's (NJDEP) New Jersey Sustainability Greenhouse Gas Action Plan proposes a state-based solution for contributing to reversing this global problem by reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 3.5% below 1990 levels by 2005. This target is half-way to the Kyoto Protocol target in a half-time framework and, given increased outputs since 1990, represents an actual reduction of 14% in GHG emissions. [For a copy of the plan, click here http://www.state.nj.us/dep/dsr/gcc/gcc-download.htm New Jersey contains several thousand school buildings and 19,000 school vehicles. Schools contribute significantly to the State's GHG emissions and thus can contribute significantly to achieving and surpassing the 3.5% reduction goal. The impetus for change can and will come from a variety of levels within the school system, including
