You are looking for hotels in Africa, one of our top-level locations. To help you find a hotel, we have divided Africa into 50 countries - from Algeria to Zimbabwe. To find your hotel, just click on one of the text links above or use the pull down menu, above right. As you focus in on the location you get nearer to the hotel listings. Optionally, there is a clickable map of Africa, accessible from the drop down menu, above and to the right - just click the button. Concerning the links on this page: it's your choice whether you use the plain text links (above), the regions menu, the map menu or the quick search. Employ whichever method is best for you - they all lead to the same hotel information. Note that, unfortunately, not all locations have a map (this one does).
Africa Washed by the warm Mediterranean Sea to the north and swept by Antarctic winds at its southern tip, Africa is a continent with many faces. North of the Sahara the climate is hot and dry, the greenery confined to river banks and oases, and the culture is mainly Arabic with French influence still remaining.

"A Saint in the city: Sufi arts of urban Senegal."
We are big, big fans of the Fowler Museum of Cultural History at the University of California at Los Angeles, the famed UCLA. Its web site is currently presenting a fabulous exhibition of the Sufi art of Senegal. It was at one time called "Passport to Paradise," but has since been renamed to "A Saint in the city: Sufi arts of urban Senegal." It is filled with wonderful art and informative text. January 30, 2003.
Arusha, international center, but a regular town too
. Arusha, Tanzania hosts the Burundi peace talks, the international tribunal on the Rwandan Genocide, and the headquarters for the rapidly developing East African Community. But it is a regular town too, a tourist center close to spectacular national parks, and a place where residents are working many of the same problems and challenges faced by any other town world wide. Let's see a few of Arusha’s "other sides." October 14, 2002.
Medieval Africa: the kingdom of Mali.
"While parts of Europe struggled to emerge from the Dark Ages, trade and culture flourished in great cities of West Africa, where artisans crafted sumptuous gold objects and scholars attracted students to centers of learning. The history of medieval Africa, long ignored and distorted, is here given full attention." Those are the words of Hazel Rochman, written while reviewing the book The Royal Kingdoms of Ghana, Mali and Songhay: Life in Medieval Africa

Not until 1993, 33 years after independence from France, did Niger hold its first free and open elections. A 1995 peace accord ended a five-year Tuareg insurgency in the north. Coups in 1996 and 1999 were followed by the creation of a National Reconciliation Council that effected a transition to civilian rule in December 1999.
