Making Child Care Work for Everyone
National Association for the Education of Young Children
The High/Scope Educational Research Foundation, in collaboration with the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), established the Program Recognition Project to identify programs offering high-quality services and above-average staff compensation, while maintaining affordable fees for families. One hundred and four programs either applied or were nominated to be considered by the Program Recognition Project. Through initial reviews and on-site assessments, the High/Scope staff selected ten exemplary programs. These programs represented a range of service types and reflected a diversity of affiliations. Almost all of the programs share certain features and goals that point to some keys to success for achieving high-quality care and education, good compensation for staff, and fees that are affordable to parents. The following are the common characteristics of the selected exemplary programs that make child care work for everyone. These programs:

Current Path: Home What is The Parenting Institute of North Carolina? Is The Parenting Institute only for professionals? What is NCPEN? ... I am a parent, can I benefit from The Parenting Institute? Q. What is The Parenting Institute of North Carolina? A. The Parenting Institute of North Carolina is a statewide resource for parenting education professionals and families. Funding for The Parenting Institute is provided by The Duke Endowment. The Parenting Institute of North Carolina is to increase the capacity of communities to deliver parenting education programs in North Carolina. Our goal is to preserve, strengthen, and empower families, through quality and stable parent education programming in North Carolina. The Parenting Institute envisions a world where communities offer on-going parenting classes - and where parents continue their education throughout the different stages of their children's development. The philosophy of The Parenting Institute is that a child depends on his/her parent more than anyone else. A parent is a child's first and most important teacher, and through reaching parents, we make a significant difference in a child's quality of life.

North Carolina Council of Churhces Education Sabbath Packet PART II RELIGIOUS COMMUNITIES UNDERTAKE THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TOWARD PUBLIC EDUCATION In 1998 the North Carolina Council of Churches Task Force on Religion and Public Education sent a questionnaire to church leaders in all its member bodies asking what support for public education was currently being given in churches. At the time only a third of the respondents reported any ways this support was being given. However, there was one respondent who gave encouragement to the Task Force's work and said, "Give us some ideas!" Another wrote, "I would appreciate a packet of suggestions of ways we could take the initiative as a church. Right now the efforts are made by individual church members who because of their faith serve as teachers and administrators, or who are parents." Since 1998 there have been more religious communities that have undertaken responsibilities toward public education in their towns and cities. They have wonderful stories to tell. This Packet gives local congregations some ideas about ways these congregations and other groups are supporting public education, other suggestions of actions your congregation might take, and resources that can be helpful.
