This section contains information on North Carolina Boating Regulations that are in addition to the Federal Requirements covered in the Basic Boating Safety Course . If you have not reviewed the course material, please do so now. All Federal Requirements in the basic boating course apply to North Carolina; this section lists North Carolina Boating Requirements that are above and beyond Federal Requirements. Personal Flotation Devices: All recreational vessels must have one Type I, II or III PFD of a suitable size for each person aboard and each skier being towed. In addition, recreational vessels 16 feet and over must also have one throwable Type IV PFD. Required PFDs must be readily accessible. Speed Limits and Reckless Operation: Although local conditions may warrant the imposition of definite limitations on speed of vessels, a general speed limit is that which is implied in safe vessel operation under existing circumstances. Speed which is excessive under the circumstances, and which endangers persons or property, is one form of reckless operation which is prohibited by North Carolina boating law. Watercraft entering, leaving or passing within 50 yards of a state-owned or controlled boating and fishing access area must do so at "no-wake" speed.

The North Carolina Motorcyclists' Education Foundation has been awarded full nonprofit status by the IRS and the NC State Dept. of Revenue. Thus all gifts are considered Tax-deductible It has been more than 10 years since the North Carolina legislature created the North Carolina Motorcycle Safety Education Program (NCMSEP). This program soared and matured over the years into a highly respected state program of impeccable quality. Currently, more that 3,500 people learn to ride each year at one of 17 sites throughout North Carolina. Without the dedicated commitment of over 100 MSF-certified instructors and the North Carolina Community College System, this would not be possible. NCMSEP's growth and success is now straining the financial budget currently available from the state. A group of dedicated motorcyclists have come together to form the North Carolina Motorcyclist Educational Foundation, Incorporated (NCMEFI) to provide additional support to the state program. All state agencies operate under very strict and sometimes stringent rules and regulations NCMSEP is no exception. By forming this non-profit corporation, the foundation is able to provide a great deal of flexibility for the solicitation and distribution of obtained resources for the NCMSEP. Many interactions with the public and business community which would be difficult, if not impossible, for NCMSEP to undertake will be a course of business for the foundation. All of the officers and board members have volunteered and agreed to serve without compensation. Corporate office space was donated by Heintzelman Law Offices. This will allow operating costs to be kept to a minimum to meet our goal that 85% of all funds raised will go to support the NCMSEP. The other 15% covers the costs of printing, mailing, etc.

Cooperative Education (co-op) is a structured academic program designed to enhance the quality and breadth of learning by providing qualified undergraduate and graduate students the option of integrating academic study with related, work based learning. Students enroll in alternating semesters of full-time study and full-time, paid employment. The awarding of a Cooperative Education Program Certificate requires a minimum of twelve months of full-time work and fulfillment of additional program requirements including degree completion. Because the program meets the criteria established by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), engineering graduates may use the co-op work experience toward professional engineering license requirements. NC State's Co-op Program has received accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Cooperative Education.
