Habitat for Humanity will engage 10 full-time AmeriCorps members to construct 35 homes for low-income, first-time homeowner families, including those living in flood-devasted southern West Virginia. Members will work with families and 200 volunteers to decrease the number of people living in substandard housing. Members will serve at four Habitat affiliates around the state and, in a unique partnership with the West Virginia Council of Churches, will assist flood-recovery efforts. How to Apply! Let's Talk About It (LTAI) is a reading and discussion program designed for libraries that brings scholars and community members together to explore how selected books illuminate a particular theme. Participants read 5 books over a 10-week period. In addition to the traditional LTAI programs which have focused on the Civil War, mysteries, Tar Heel fiction, and women's autobiographies, among others, NCHC has developed several new programs including, "Twentieth Century African-American Literature."     Program Summary and Outcomes
    Child Care Services Association works to ensure affordable, accessible, high quality child care for young children and their families through services, research and advocacy at the local, state and national levels. SERVICES TO ENSURE AFFORDABILITY
    • CCSA helps low-income parents work or attend school by providing them with child care scholarships. In 2001-02, nearly 600 children from low-income families in Orange County received child care scholarships with funds from Smart Start, United Way, UNC, local government, foundations or special contributions. The parents of many more were assisted in securing financial assistance from government agencies. These parents collectively earned $8.3 million, representing a viable, contributing part of our economic community.
    • CCSA helps reduce the operating costs of child care programs by providing nutrition services and meal reimbursements.

    The Know Your Religion lecture series is designed to help individuals strengthen their testimonies of the divinity of Jesus Christ and His restored gospel; read and ponder the scriptures and the words of the living prophets and seek the saving ordinances of the gospel; marry in the temple and make their homes more effective and stable as they strive to become an eternal family; develop the capacity to share truths and desire to serve others; improve their vocational competence, work habits, and industriousness; and develop their self-respect, creativity, and problem-solving ability. (Instructions to Priesthood Leaders on the Church Educational System, 1990). We invite you to review this information and schedule monthly attendance at Know Your Religion along with the more than 100,000 individuals who attend each year throughout the United States and Canada.
    Who May Attend
    Everyone 14 years of age and older is invited to attend Know Your Religion (KYR), Scripture Seminars, and Adult Religion Classes. Please be considerate of other participants by not bringing children who are not mature enough to sit quietly during the presentations.
