NOTES ON STANDARD SCHOOLS
THROUGH USE OF STOCK PLANS 22 MAY 1995 The good intentions of the Legislators are recognized in seeking to reduce education costs. Stock plans could be seen as a device to eliminate the architect and save some 6% of the cost of all of the State's school construction. But, it is not that simple. First, let us put the architect's role in school planning in some perspective. Cost of Planning Versus Operation The following is an example of the cost of the architect's planning as it relates to the lifetime cost of a 600 student elementary school. 72,000 sq.ft. ® $78/sq.ft. = Architect's fee x $5,600.000 = Average per pupil, per year, expenditure for operating and maintenance of plant Cost per year - $ 350 x 600 students = 60 year life cycle cost 60 x $ 210,000 (no inflation is figured) = Construction Architect's Fee Land and Other Costs Total Cost of Building Operation and Maintenance *Source N. • Prior to assuming the role of Acting Chairperson for the Department of Construction Management in January 1993, I had served as Director of Undergraduate Studies for the School of Industry and Technology since 1988. Responsibilities for this job include evaluating incoming transfer students, advising students, assisting other school advisors, evaluating senior summaries of all graduating students, and working with students with special advising problems.
  • Within the Department of Construction Management, I have been a significant player in directing the curriculum changes in the Construction Management concentration. This has involved obtaining input from the construction industry and converting that information into a full curriculum. These curriculum efforts were directed toward program improvement and ACCE accreditation requirement.

    Questions and Answers
In what areas are licenses issued? Licenses are issued in administrative, supervisory, student service, and teaching areas. Teaching areas encompass birth through kindergarten, elementary (K-6), middle grades (6-9), secondary grades (9-12), special subjects (K-12), exceptional children (K-12), and vocational education. Back to Top
How do I qualify for a North Carolina license?
The standard basis for licensure is the completion of an approved education program at an accredited college or university. Most out-of-state applicants qualify through reciprocity plans that allow educators from outside North Carolina to establish eligibility for licensing in North Carolina.
