Graduate Programs in the Department of Psychology
PhD Program The Department of Psychology at North Dakota State University is now accepting students for a newly approved doctoral program in psychology. This program has two tracks of study: Cognitive Neuroscience and Social/Health. The program is designed to produce graduates with strong research skills who will be competitive in the academic job market as well as in public and private applied research settings. The program includes coursework to provide a solid grounding in the content of one's chosen area as well as in research methods and statistics, laboratory experience in an apprenticeship model of research training, and teacher training which culminates in the students' preparation and teaching of their own courses. Our program is strongly based on a mentorship model of training in which a student is expected to work closely with a specific faculty member in his or her specialty area. All of our faculty are active in research and publication, with productivity comparable to that of the top quartile of doctoral-level psychology programs surveyed by the National Research Council (Research-Doctorate Programs in the United States, 1995). An analysis by Gordon published in Professional Psychology Research and Practice (February, 1990) ranked NDSU as the best masters-level department in the nation in terms of research productivity. Students interested in applying can examine the faculty research programs, publications, and other information about the department on this website.

Chemistry Course Homepages Chemistry is frequently called the central science because all materials, whether animate or inanimate, are made of chemical elements. Hence, chemistry is at the heart of all scientific investigations, from the development of new medical treatments to the preparation of new superconductors. Chemistry is uniquely able to provide the fundamental understanding required to deal with societal needs, including feeding, clothing and sheltering the world's people; tapping new sources of energy; providing renewable substitutes for scarce materials; improving health and conquering disease, strengthening national security; and monitoring and protecting our environment.
What Does That Mean For Me?
Through lecture and laboratory courses and undergraduate research, chemistry majors at the University of North Dakota gain the knowledge that enables them to work as professional chemists at the cutting edge of science and technology. You will join the many concerned, dedicated scientists who play crucial roles in solving problems associated with everyday life and advancing our standard of living.

Protecting the Privacy of Student Records Acknowledgments Protecting the Privacy of Student Records: Guidelines for Education Agencies is the product of a collaborative effort involving numerous individuals from federal, state, and local education agencies, public and private educational institutions, and national professional associations, as well as educators, administrators, and researchers. Members of the Data Confidentiality Task Force of the National Forum on Education Statistics and Lee Hoffman of the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) provided leadership and painstakingly reviewed every draft of the manuscript. (Their names and affiliation are listed in the Foreword of this document.) In addition, authors are most grateful to LeRoy Rooker and Ellen Campbell of the Family Policy Compliance Office, U.S. Department of Education. They explained and clarified the federal laws and their regulations, and reviewed several versions of the manuscript. In October 1996, a group of federal agency representatives met in Washington, D.C. to review the document and provided invaluable suggestions on specific issues related to their respective programs:

    College of Science and Mathematics

If you wish to become a physician, an optometrist, a dentist, a podiatrist, a chiropractor or an osteopath, this fact sheet may answer some of your questions about allied health programs available at North Dakota State University.
    The Program
Pre-professional programs usually consist of four years of college. This is followed by four additional years in a professional school. While state-supported professional schools usually admit very few nonresidents, a resident of Minnesota attending NDSU and applying to the University of Minnesota Medical School will be given the same consideration as a Minnesota resident who has received a pre-medical education in Minnesota. Similarly, North Dakota residents are given equal priority by the University of North Dakota (UND) School of Medicine regardless of graduation from NDSU, UND, or any other university of equal standing. Back to fact sheet index The Pre-Professional Curriculum There is no formal curriculum for you as a pre-professional student, so you are free to choose an academic major that is close to your personal interests. However, professional schools require their applicants to complete certain basic courses. As an example, the UND School of Medicine requires its applicants to have completed 16 semester hours in chemistry, eight in physics, eight in the biological sciences, three in college algebra, three in psychology or sociology and six in English. Students planning to apply to professional schools should seek information from particular schools and become familiar with any special requirements.
