Farm Focus Extension Associate Hired for Van Wert County
I am pleased to announce that we have finally filled the Farm Focus/Agronomic Crops Research EA position for Van Wert County. We are pleased to announce that Gary Prill of Van Wert has accepted the position and will begin on March 15. Gary comes to us from Central States Grain Terminal near Fort Wayne, where he currently serves as the control room operator. He has previously worked for both Moorman Feeds and the Budd Company. Gary attended ATI in Wooster and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Agronomy from Ohio State. Last week, we mentioned that Nancy Bowen has accepted the Van Wert County Economic Development position. Nancy will actually now begin on March 29 in stead of March 15 as we stated last week. Nancy comes to us from New Orleans. With the hiring of Nancy and Gary, we now are at full staff in Van Wert County (all five agents) for the first time since last May. So, if you hear a cheer coming up from Van Wert County (and the District Office ), you will know why.
National Recognition
Congratulations to Mark and the entire Northwest District GrainExcel Team for receiving this national recognition!

50. Testimony On House Bills 94
of Teachers represents K12 teachers, higher education faculty, library staff andpublic education Budget Cuts of Concern to the ohio Federation of Teachers.
http://www.oft-aft.org/stand/94.htm
Testimony on House Bills 94-95 By Darold Johnson, The Ohio Federation of Teachers Before the House Finance and Appropriations Committee My name is Darold Johnson. I am the Legislative and Political Coordinator for the Ohio Federation of Teachers. The Ohio Federation of Teachers represents K-12 teachers, higher education faculty, library staff and public employees. We are concerned about funding for K-12 education levels but not at the expense of human services and higher education. Monitoring the hearing over the last several days, I am reminded of President Lincoln’s second inaugural address in which he said: "With malice toward none; with charity for all; with firmness in the right, let us strive on to finish the work we are now in…" Of course he was speaking to a nation at war, but his words ring true in a way about the process this committee is now engaged. I have no malice towards members of this committee for you are engaged in a difficult process. I hope committee members will have charity towards those who present their view and for each other as you strive to finish the work you are now in. It is clear from the discussion that has occurred, work on the budget bill continues in behind the scene meetings. I hope that this work will reflect the input of those whom have come before this committee and repair some of the cuts made in some programs presented in the unified budget.
