WARNING
This office has been informed that an insurance agent licensed in Florida, is selling or attempting to sell surety bonds and other lines of insurance to contractors for Federal government contracts illegally. He is using a surety company name very similar to a Treasury approved surety company, but changing the spelling of it slightly (i.e. Amercian vs. American). Federal bond-approving officers are advised to verify the authenticity of any bond written by Amercian Contractors Indemnity Company or by American Contractors Indemnity Company by contacting Frank M. Lanak, Director of Claims, telephone (310) 649-0990. Additionally, it has been reported that the agent has written bonds in the name of Indemnity Insurance Company of North America, also on Federal contracts. Please be advised that this company is not currently a Treasury approved surety company.

STRATEGY FOR APPLICANTS
Work experience is becoming more important to Ohio State's admissions office, although it is not an absolute requirement. Average work experience jumped to 5.4 years for MBAs entering in the fall of 1998, up from 4.02 years for those admitted in 1997. GMAT scores are also an important part of the admissions equation at the B-school.
In the past, Ohio State did not encourage applicants to come to campus to interview because the building was in such bad shape. "Up until this year we couldn't interview students, because they'd see the old building and wonder if we were really serious," says Dean Joseph Alutto. But now that the B-school has a new home, interviews are strongly encouraged. In fact, second year students will call or E-mail about 400 applicants whose applications are reviewed favorably and invite them to interview on campus. Pat Strohl, manager for recruitment and admissions, says applicants should be interested in one of the five areas the school focuses on financial management, investment management, marketing, operations logistics and consulting.

II. Progress in Implementing the Chief financial Officers Act Since the passage of the CFO Act, the Department has developed and implemented a sound CFO organization structure that is capable of successfully meeting current and future challenges in Federal financial management. The Department, like other Federal agencies, is at an important crossroads, with unrelenting pressure to do more with less. The decade of the 1990's is proving to be one of the most challenging, dynamic periods ever experienced by Federal managers. The challenge facing all CFO's is to rethink the way we conduct the government's business; provide the necessary leadership to efficiently manage resources; provide timely and accurate financial information for stakeholders and program managers; and restore the public's faith in government. To meet this formidable challenge, the Department has developed an aggressive agenda for streamlining, reducing the cost of operations, improving financial systems, improving financial reporting and accountability, enhancing the quality of financial services to customers, and re-engineering financial and program practices and processes. The Department embarked on an ambitious benchmarking effort to systematically identify accounting and financial processes and procedures that could be standardized, improved, or eliminated to improve customer service and reduce cost. In addition, the Department convened the Finance Officers Partnership (FOP), a group of senior financial managers from each bureau, to provide a baseline for future financial management re-engineering activities.
