This is a great place to ask those questions like: "Where do I find such-and-such source" or "Does anyone know the history of such-and-such place" as well as asking about families. These general questions are difficult to ask in queries on this web site. You may subscribe to the mailing list by sending only the word "subscribe" in the body of the message. Click

Although the British didn't allow settlement west of the Appalachians, after the United States was successful in its Revolutionary War, it set aside the Northwest Territory to be used for veterans' bounty lands and other settlement. In 1788, the first permanent white settlement in Ohio was formed at Marietta, and Ohio became a state in 1803. Its presence on the Ohio River and Lake Erie, as well as on the National Road, along with the building of canals and railways, brought settlers and goods into Ohio throughout the 1800s. The state contributed over 300,000 soldiers to the Union cause in the Civil War. Today it is both an industrial stronghold and an important agricultural contributor to the United States.

The Descendents and Relatives of the Moff Family
(aka Muff / Mofs). Long, Long Ago, In a Galaxy Far, Far Away.... There was a character called Grand Moff Tarkin.
To the Best of our Knowledge and Belief,
We Are Not Descended From Him. :-) We are , however, descended from Johann Georg Moff, Jr., born circa September 4, 1793
in the very small town of Oberschwarzach, near Neckargemünd, Baden-Württemberg, Germany.
He and his family came to the United States on the ship "Isaac Bell" in July, 1851. Welcome!! I'm very glad you have come to visit this site. If you find yourself or one of your ancestors on this page, I would very much appreciate hearing from you. If you have any additions, deletions, corrections, comments, questions or the like, they would be most welcome, and I will update the page accordingly. Also, if you are descended from any of the following Moffs, I would be happy to provide you with copies of the source documentation that I have, gedcoms, etc. Eventually, I'll get an index with links set up here to make it easier to jump from person to person. For now, please check here for an Alphabetical Index of the individuals whose names appear in this family tree. Thanks for visiting and return often - I may updating this at any time! :-) Happy Hunting!!
