The Ohio Wesleyan University Library, as part of The Five Colleges of Ohio, Inc. Government Documents Group, has been selected as the recipient of the 2000 Bernadine Abbott Hoduski Founders Award for its pioneering in retrospective cataloging of historical collections of U.S. Government Documents. Other members of the consortium are The College of Wooster, Denison University, Kenyon College and Oberlin College. The Hoduski Founders Award is made each year by the Government Documents Roundtable of the American Library Association. It recognizes librarians who work with government documents and have made significant contributions to the field of international, federal, state or local documents. The award honors those whose contributions have benefited not only the individual's institution, but also the profession. In 1845, the Ohio Wesleyan University Library became the first depository for federal documents in the state of Ohio and has a strong collection of nineteenth and twentieth century documents. In addition to OWU, the other colleges also have old and valuable materials. Because these early collections were not cataloged, access was limited and few users were aware of their existence. Recognizing their value, documents staff members of several of the members of the Five Colleges Consortium met at Beeghly Library in 1985 to discuss the importance of cataloging government materials. In 1986, The College of Wooster began cataloging both current and historical documents, providing the foundation upon which the current collaboration is built. Ohio Wesleyan Cataloging Manager Judy Orahood and Public Services Librarian Joy He oversee the historical cataloging at OWU with project coordinator, Ellen Conrad.

Ohio Department of Education - High School Proficiency Testing Fact Sheets
SPECIAL NOTE : Several words which appear under G. Three Branches of the Ohio Government also appear under F. Three Branches of the Federal Government as well as under . Therefore, not all of these words have been repeated in questions under this, the Ohio section. Students should understand that the organization of the federal government and the Ohio government are quite similar. Both have a chief executive (the President and Governor), both have legislative bodies (Congress and the Ohio General Assembly) and both have their own systems of upper and lower courts whose primary function is to interpret the law and to punish law breakers. In answering these questions refer to Section G of The Little Book and the Related Words list. Circle the letter of the correct answer.
