Special Ohio Certification Programs For Undergraduates With Degrees
The state of Ohio has established certification programs that enable (a) graduates holding teaching certificates to train for a certificate in a different teaching field or grade level, and (b) non-education degree holders to qualify for a provisional teaching certificate. A student in the post-baccalaureate certification program is classified as UWD, or, undergraduate with degree. In order to formulate a program of study for such applicants, the academic record of each must be evaluated by the Student Services Center. Prior to the student's first semester of enrollment, an application for credit evaluation should be obtained from the Student Services Center. When the application has been submitted, the student will then receive by mail a list of the courses needed for certification. If there are questions regarding the evaluation, the student should consult one of the college advisers. The program to be completed by the applicant will conform to the intent of the state of Ohio and The University of Toledo's approved program. Under no circumstances will the College recommend a UWD for certification until the full extent of the certification program has been met. All students must maintain a 2.5 average or better in teaching field(s) and in professional education coursework. UWD certification usually involves an assessment of the previously completed course work including general education requirements, any professional education courses, and all curriculum content courses that may be acceptable in the area for which certification is sought. In order to be recommended for certification, the UWD candidate is responsible for completing all program requirements identified in the transcript evaluation completed by the Student Services Center. Note: Applicant must also satisfactorily pass all state certification exams.

Degree/Teacher Certification Program Family and Consumer Sciences Education (formerly Home Economics Education) Goal of the M.Ed. Program The goal of the Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) Master of Education (M.Ed.) program is to prepare caring, competent, and committed family and consumer sciences educators to help youth and adults solve the challenges and issues of contemporary work, family, and democratic community life. FCS educators are prepared to teach in middle and high school family and consumer sciences programs, such as Work and Family Life, GRADS, Impact programs, and adult family and consumer sciences education programs. To achieve this goal, the M.Ed. Program in Family and Consumer Sciences Education is designed to (1) develop professional knowledge and analytical skills necessary to function as an education professional leader, and (2) meet the professional education requirements for teacher certification/licensure through a professional graduate degree. Need for the FCS Educators Family and consumer sciences educators are needed to collaborate with other faculty, parents, and community members to prepare youth for the complexities of work and family life in the 21st century. With increasing enrollments in work and family life programs, there is a shortage of FCS teachers. Broadly educated teachers are needed to be leaders in their schools and communities.

Implementation Grant OVERVIEW Goal, Obj, Outputs Activities Team ... Proposal Long-standing commitments and contextual features specific to Ohio State's teacher education programs shape the design of the Project. Among these are a commitment to collaborative field-based models of teacher education, a leadership role in the Homes initiative since its inception, and ongoing cultivation of collaborative partnerships with K-12 schools, and a tradition of high standards for content mastery as a part of teacher education. Ohio State’s approach to preservice teacher education is characterized by highly selective masters’ level programs leading to both certification and a professional degree (MEd). Entering students have bachelors degrees in fields relevant to their teacher education programs. Computer courses or experiences are included in the programs to meet Ohio teacher certification standards. Ohio State graduates approximately 360 new teachers annually in K-12 teacher fields.
