Cooperative Extension Volunteer Water Quality Monitoring Programs
Our inquiries identified 27 volunteer water quality monitoring programs that are sponsored or co-sponsored by Cooperative Extension in the United States and its territories. We have since updated the list to include a total of 31 programs and two contacts for soon-to-be programs in Ohio. These programs began as early as 1978 and up to the year 2002. They have volunteers monitoring a variety of aquatic habitats including rivers, streams, lakes, ponds, well, wetlands, and estuaries. The image above and to the right represents how Cooperative Extension is involved in volunteer water quality monitoring programs across the nation. The map fails to show the Extension co-sponsored program that exists in the American Samoa. We have listed the programs that are sponsored or co-sponsored by Cooperative Extension by state in the list below. In parentheses next to each coordinator's name is the year that the program began. Many programs have websites available, and we have created links to these sites for your convenience.

Wild Turkey Survival in Southeastern Oklahoma
Terrence G. Bidwell and O. Eugene Maughan*

Oklahoma Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit and Department of Zoology, Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, OK 74078
* Present addresses: Department of Agronomy, Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, OK 74078, and Arizona Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit, University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ 84721, respectively.
Cause-specific mortality and survival of eastern wild turkey hens were investigated in southeastern Oklahoma on commercial forestland during 1983 and 1984. Nine (20%) of 45 radio-instrumented turkeys were killed by predators. Turkeys were also lost due to transmitter loss or failure and capture stress. Poaching or hunting did not appear to be a major cause of mortality. Monthly survival rates varied from 36 to 100%.
INTRODUCTION
Only limited information exists on effects of predation on adult eastern wild turkeys at the southwestern periphery of their range. Our objectives were to determine the monthly loss rates and causes of turkey mortality.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
Our study area was located on the 19,000-ha Weyerhaeuser Company Mountain Fork Wildlife Management Area in McCurtain County, Oklahoma. The region is characterized by oak (
